I've had a phobia of vomiting for years. It got pretty awful at points with being so ill and feeling sick a lot.

April 2011 I vomiting - possibly because of a bug. And I pulled a muscle in my back and it was really painful to move.

Do you get used to vomiting or is it something you will never really get used to but just put up with?

I dont think you can "Get used to vomiting" or nausea. It is awful. I have personally had busted internal stitches and hernias that needed to be fixed w/ surgery! All from vomiting! I take a drug called Zofran for nausea and it works very well. Maybe ginger tea will sooth your tummy, but no, I don't think you will get used to it. I'm sorry to say :(

Nausea sucks and once you start to get it a lot you kinda just learn to deal with it. my vomiting it not easily controlled. i have been taking zofran and reglin but they are going to try me on compazine. sip on peppermint tea!

Tasha- I too have a phobia of vomiting, though mine is more to do with others vomiting. I think you can get used to it so you aren't phobic anymore. I still absolutely detest vomiting, but I can do it now without becoming a quivering wreck. My trick is to go to the bathroom and consciously stop fighting the urge, it's much easier when you 'choose' to vomit than wait for it to get to the point where the urge takes over.

I agree that you never get used to puking but it doesn't bother me like it used to. It definetly helps not to fight it. The worst part to me is when you have ran out of food/liquid to bring up and you are just dry heaving and bring up bile - this gave me a sore throat and left the feeling that something was stuck. Really hurts the ole tummy muscle too :(

Have any of you had a problem where because you've got IBD, your stomach hurts anyway and even moving sometimes simply hurts, and then you puke? I can't imagine puking when i'm in agony. :(

Yes, that's how I was when I was first poorly. Though the puking didn't actually hurt any more, it just didn't bring any relief from the pain (like it usually does if you've got a bug)

For me it was the pain and grinding tummyaches that brought on the vomiting - literally had 'stuff' comin out both ends at the same time. I am VERY thankful that my sink is right next to the loo otherwise we would have needed a new carpet in the bathroom. Like others I come over feeling very hot and flushed but also strangly shivery when I have the reall bad tummyaches.

I dont know if you can get used to it. You just sort of learn to sort of deal with it and know when its coming. Earlier this year I had C-Diff, and was vomiting 20 times a day if not more and it was horrible. They tried putting an NG tube in me to try and calm it down but i just ended up puking through the tube up my nose and into the bag instead which was a weird experience!

I definitely think we don't all get 'used' to vomiting because for many of us it is not one of our most common symptoms. I too have a phobia of vomiting and would literally lay still for hours trying to avoid it, rather than getting up and getting it over and done with. I haven't vomited since I was hospitalised in November 2010. At that point I was so sick that when I tried to talk to the emergency room nurse, it was too much and I ended up throwing up instead (although for future reference this did get me seen to immediately, so it was such a bad move to make). I agree with some of the people on here though, that Zofran is an awesome drug for intense nausea.

Yeah we can, it's called Ondansetron
I've used Cyclizine, same as above and very good for nausea and vomiting
Both on prescription only tho, ask your doc about them

The worst part for me is dry heaving, so when I have an episode of being sick I try to drink something like orange squash so that at least something is coming up - and it tastes much nicer than bile! :D

I have a big phobia of vomiting as well. I'm not sure if anyone really gets used to vomiting. I know it would be a lot better to just get it done and over with but I can't get my mind around it and end up holding it back. I drink a lot of ginger ale, tea, and when its really bad i'll take an over the counter medication like gravol. I have noticed the more worked up i get about being sick the more ill I feel so I try and distract myself. i'll watch a movie, play around on my lap top or even do some lite house work.

Thanks Joan, i'll ask about that tomorrow! :)

I didn't realise how many crohns sufferers did actually have a phobia/fear of vomiting. Even more not alone!

I would also recommend taking something to prevent the vomiting. Vomiting not only feels awful, but it's bad for your heart and your teeth, among other things (like pulling a muscle in your back).

I feel like if you are vomiting regularly you are not under good enough control and need to reevaluate your treatment regimen. When I started vomiting regularly it was because I had an abscess that had to be surgically removed.

Hope you get it under control and start feeling better.

I might be Exaggerating a little if i say i vomiting on daily bases ! but i don't thing i had one week without vomiting at least once !

I still hate it, but am so used to it.,!
