I have problems with hey fever at certain times of the year which can make me feel quite unwell. Does anyone else suffer? How does it affect your Crohn's? I have also occasionally taken antihistamine tablets (loratadine), but ithey appear to make me feel quite ill, has anyone else noticed this is a problem?

I get hayfever pretty badly, then I went to my doctor and he gave me prescription antihistamines and a nasal steroid and it disappeared....

I've always had hay fever pretty bad. This year and last year wasn't too bad although last year I was in hospital most of the summer and I've heard something about it being worse every two years..so maybe this year wasn't the worst for me.

I'd always hoped that being on azathioprine would help in stopping it but it doesn't seem the case. The hay fever seasons over now though, are you sure it's not another allergy? Otherwise it might be worth asking your gp for the injection which is supposed to work well.

I am not having issues right now, I suffer mostly during May and June. I was just interested to know whether other Crohn's suffers have problems with hey fever and whether they had noticed any issues with taking antihistamines.

I have allll kinds of allergy problems and the neti pot is a savior! Since I am already on a lot of other meds (and right now I'm preggers) I've been trying to limit my OTC meds. The sinus rinse has been such a help. If you're not opposed to squirting stuff up your nose (meds I mean!!) I'd really suggest trying it :)

Allergies and hay fever can be symptoms of an endorphin deficiency... as can Crohn's Disease. Researchers in 1994 found that CD sufferers have roughly half the endorphin level of healthy people (ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7865897). If your body doesn't produce enough endorphins for whatever reason, the result is that you are more susceptible to stress... resulting in anxiety, depression, and tissue inflammation.

Have you heard of LDN? It can boost endorphin production by up to 300% and could probably help you feel better. Check the forum for more info.

Peace,
Geoff
