I had an appointment at my GI's office today to discuss pain I have been having, mostly RUQ. They think there is a possibility that I might have IBS as well as UC, so they are starting me on bentyl to see if that helps. I will follow up with the GI's office in two weeks. If the bentyl doesn't help the pain, I will have to have some scans. Other possibilities they discussed were gallbladder, stricture, or Crohn's inflammation elsewhere in my GI tract. I just wondered if anyone had any experience with having both IBS and UC, so I would have an idea of what to expect.

At first I was diagnosed with ibs but after stating that the pain I was in could hardly be described as irritable they performed colonoscopy and changed diagnosis to uc.

I didn't even know there was a difference. IBS stands for Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome. It's a joker card type of diagnosis that doctors give out when they don't know exactly what is going on.

To get either a Crohn's or UC diagnosis, they require histology labs. Once they see exactly what type of cells they're dealing with, the diagnosis is confirmed. Treatments are probably the same.

I have Ulcerative Colitis and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I had the lap band surgery done in 2010. I have had Irritable bowel way before the surgery. Now that I have had it done the IBS and UC have gotten alot worse. I am vomiting after every meal I eat. I am also vomiting after everything I drink. It has been going on for over a month now, What should I do about this? Should I go to the Hospital for it or should I just stick it out and hope and pray that I don't die from lack of food and drink in my body?

Do you go back and forth between Diarrhea and constipation, have the sharp pain after you eat something, and have a lose of appetite at times? If so then you more then likely do have both IBS and UC. I have both. It is not fun trust me. If you are passing blood in your stool then you need to let a doctor know because that is not a symptom of IBS. I am always nausea, I have bloating, feel full faster then most people, and I switch back and forth between diarrhea and constipation. I also have the sharp pains and loss of appetite. I also have blood in my stool and I am always vomiting up my food after every meal. So as you can see I have both UC and IBS.

When did you last have your Lap-Band checked? The vomiting and sharp pains after food and drink are most likely connected to something wrong with your Lap-Band. It is possible that it slipped.

I had my Lap Band checked back in March. I don't have any insurance so I can't go as often as I would like to go. I had a barrium done on Monday and the person that did it said that my band looked fine. The barrium stuff is the only stuff that I actually kept down since this has been going on. I have lost 20 pounds in one month because of not being able to eat or drink without vomiting. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and IBS. I am just worried that I might have something else going on in my digestive tract other then the UC and IBS. With my Lap Band the last time they checked it back in March they took all the saline out of it to let my stomach and esophagus rest from the tightness of the band. It has been since March for that I was supposed to go back two months ago for another check up on the band, but I can't afford to. I am trying to get my primary care doctor to refer me to a surgeon to remove the band. So we will see what happens once the surgery for the removal of the band is done.

At this time I have IBS and mild Crohn's. Yes it's possible to have both. But once you control one the other should get better as well.
