I just think we are on the right track and now, the Dr tells me that the Soluble Prednisolone Tablets are very high in salt and not to be taken long term!!...My son Danni finds the smallest of tablets impossible to take...He is a very anxious person with lots of complex Mental health issues...As soon as a tablet goes on the tongue he heaves terribly...1

He is experiencing his second flare and has been put on 40 mg Prednisolone a day...Ok I thought, then the GP rings me and says that I need to encourage Danni to take the 'Normal'tablets because the salt content in the soluble tablets is high...she said that, because of the salty taste, he may eventually reject it...or, his body will reject it?...Somehting like this as she then had to rush off of the phone!!!...

Now, another long 4 day weekend in the UK I am left hanging about Danni's meds yet again!!...So, what would even be the alternative to the soluble? There is no syrup availabale!!...His flare needs treating, so the soluble is all we have available!...apparently they are taken by children usually, in small doses...Maybe I need to post in the Parental section also?

Any help please?...so sorry to be a nuisense!!

Thank you...Danni's Mum xXx

I had soluble prednisolone when I was first put on it when I was 13/14 - I didnt know about the high salt content? Anyways , I'm not sure if it was just the brand I had but the prednisolone solution was absolutely vile tasting , although it was bright pink and fizzy. Still nasty, though.

You can get Eneric ( i think thats the word?) coated pred , thats kind of easier to take than the other kind , as the kind without coating dissolves a little on your tongue and has a gross aftertaste.

But basically those are your two options , soluble pred or tablet form (coated or non coated)

This is kind of a crazy idea , but have you considered going to a hypnotherapist or something , seeing as the problem with taking tablets is psychological? Or you could try practicing swallowing tablets with M&M's or skittles?

I would have thought uncontrolled crohns is alot worse than being on soluble pred tbh , especially seeing as you can't stay on pred for a very long time anyway?

I don't know if this would be feasable but I have been on IV steroids before , although this requires hospitalization and they give you very high doses (I was on 400 mg/day) but that's a way of having steroids that doesn't involve swallowing them?

Sorry , I've rambled alot. Hope some of this helps :)
