Does Azathioprine make you sleepy?

Hi all
first post.
I've recently started on Azathioprine on advice of my doctor after my Crohn's flare ups become more and more frequent.
I'm currently on 20mg Predn (reducing dose) and 75 mg of Azathioprine. I also take folic acid and calcium tablets. However, I was advised that my dose should be 175 mg Azathiprione but I just can't seem to stay awake!!!

I'm taking just 75mg of Azathioprine (at night before bed) and even now (it's 12.11pm and I'm at my desk at work) my eyes are very heavy, I'm feeling so sleepy. This has been going on since I started this medication.

Will this side effect go away (I'm on my 4th week of Azathioprine) or will it go on for ever? Can it be counter balanced by taking something else or should I just tell my doctor I can't seem to tolerate it.

Any tips from anybody who's been in the same position as me would be much appreciated.

thx
David (UK)

I thought it was making me sleepy when I first started taking 6MP, but it only lasted about two weeks. I think, though, that it was moreso my body needing major rest from the flare.

I know others on here have mentioned feeling fatigued with 6MP and aza for longer periods than what I have experienced. But most have also said that it goes away as your body adjusts to the meds.

Never really had the sleepiness with the azathioprine, maybe its just your body getting used to the drug.

I do get tired easily, but I just take a nap after work!

I don't feel it's totally on the aza though, as my iron levels are low too so I think it might be that too.

My company doctor keeps reminding me that I should be taking things a lot slower and not to push myself too much, so I try to follow that advice. I'm on 100mg.
