Anyone experienced with using the Eakin seals?

I am trying them. I am having a very difficult time applying them and molding them around my stoma.

Convatec's video makes it look so easy. But they are working on a plastic model, not a human body.

Should fingers be moistened? Any tips?

Thanks very much

I've tried the Eakin Slims seals. I don't mold it around my stoma (I find it cumbersome and can't see if I've got it on right around the lower end...plus, my stoma is chatty no matter when I change, so I need to be quick!).

Instead, I just mold it around the appliance and then put it over my stoma and then put my bag on (I use a 2-piece). After I put the bag on, I just hold my hand over the appliance area to make sure it all sticks.

Are you warming the Seal before putting it on? It makes it much easier to work with.

Not sure if I've been very helpful, but maybe someone who actually puts it on around their stoma will write in and be more helpful!

no don't moisten your fingers, it'll not stick..
when the paper is still on, warm it in your hands, then when you've taken the paper off, only stretch it a little as once you've stretched it it doesn't shrink back...make sure its tight around the stoma, it'll not do any harm because its so soft.

I warm up the seals between my hands while there is still the paper wrapping on them. I also start from the bottom putting them on, stretching ever so gently as I pull it over the stoma.

When I'm with half an eye open I just warm it up and slap it on the bag before I put it on.

i'm not liking the method they use in the 2nd video. to me there still looks likes there is gaps. i think they're stetching it too much before they put it on. i hardly stretch it at all.

i don't do a lot of skin prep but i do use one spritz of skin barrier spray before i put the slim on.

Cavilon spray is a wonderful product! I dont use the eakin seals though, I use the Salts. No gaps allowed with the seal, what you want is the snuggle of a tight fit around the stoma. Thats why I put it 'bottoms up' without really stretching it much before hand. When the seal is on right, (in my opinion) you should see it turtleneck a bit around the the flange. Thus it totally protects against leaks. Eureka says I to no more sore skin!

The Salts is a UK product - I can't get it locally and it doesn't seem to be sold on the net.

I just changed a couple hours ago, and I noticed the stoma was much darker (purplish-black) where the Eakin ring had "hugged" it. The color improved during the time I was changing it. The rest of the stoma is a good regular color.

Did you experience this at all, either with or without the Eakin or Salts rings?

Thanks

No I never experienced that. The seals I use are a soft waxy substance and they give alot. Therefore Stan is very softly enveloped (poetic!) and never has his circulation cut off.

Perhaps your stoma nurse can suggest a different barrier ring to use?
