Does anyone have any advice for me please. I cant seem to eat anything without being in pain either straight after, whilst still eating or a few hrs later. I dont eat dairy and I find that my body lets me eat the wrong foods with less symptoms than when trying to eat what ive been advised to. This has left me only eating one meal and one snack a day (and thats with me forcing myself to) ,i get very tired and i know im anaemic, but have been for yrs. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. thanks, kelly

Hi Kelly,
I am anemic and have a stricture as well. Any time I am in pain, I pretty much have a clear liquid diet until I feel better, then eat low-residue foods, then slowly get back to my regular diet (mine is gluten-free).
I was convinced I had a lactose intolerance, but my doc said that's not associated with Crohn's- so I slowly reintroduced dairy, starting with yoghurt. Yoghurt/and or a good probiotic has helped me a lot.
I have also just started iron infusions, and feel pretty great. You might ask your doc about that to get your energy level back up.
Good luck and I hope you feel better!

HI Kelly, i don't know about this but, you can give it a try, you can go on liquid diet for a while and try to drink, boost, ensure, or any nutritional drinks and lots of water to give your bowel time to rest up. That's what i did when i have a flare up and it helps alot. it's just a suggestion. best wishes.

Like Crohny I also have a stricture and that causes me pain after eating, I made the mistake of having a big meal yesterday and I paid for it in pain!
At the moment I follow a vegen diet with the exception of eggs, and it doesn't do too much to make the symptoms better but when I eat cream/cheese the pain is more frequent so I just steer clear now, even being on steroids at the moment.
I normally have 2 pieces of toast or a small bowl of cereal with rice milk for breakfast, followed by a small lunch of either a piece of toast or if I'm hungry one poached egg on a piece of toast and then a dinner of a small bowl of pasta/omollette/cous cous

I find eating smaller meals is better for me at the moment and probably most people with a flare up of crohn's.

I'm on co-codemol for the pain and it has helped so it might be good for you to try that

xxxxxx

Thanks for all your advice. I dont think just a liquid diet would help me tho im afraid as liquids also set it off, even water. and i loose weight easily. Only times i have been able to eat/drink properly is when on steriods (once a yr) and i make the most of it then to put weight back on to stay healthy. And i def wouldnt be able to stick to a vegan diet. like my meat! I havent yet found anything i would eat that doesnt set me off. Will look into the iron infusions as havent be told about them, thanks :thumright:

Check out the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. There is lots of good advice on the website breakingtheviciouscycle.info. Basically, you start off with chicken broth, made from scratch with chicken, water and salt. (Boil any pieces of chicken, with skin and bones, the cheaper parts the better, in salt water for several hours. You can do it in a crockpot or any large saucepan.) It's delicious and healing. AND natural, not a bunch of artificial elements thrown together like Ensure. The diet is based on eliminating sugars and starches. Simple concept, hard to apply, since sugar and starch are the basis of the Standard American Diet. After you heal on the chicken broth, you can enjoy a steak but not the potatoes (too starchy), for example. Do consider the SCD or the GAPS diet (an offshoot). They have made my husband better in just a few weeks - after having Crohn's for 45 years.

Before my surgery, almost all foods made me miserable so I just stuck to foods that didn't make me feel any worse than I already did. I ate things like baked potatoes, boost, unsweetened apple sauce, boneless skinless chicken breasts, chicken noodle soup, soft pretzels with lite cream cheese, cinnamon raisin bagels (toasted/plain), peas and jello (lots and lots of jello). I pretty much stuck with mellow foods and limited milk products. I avoided ground beef all together. Hopefully you find something that works for you and start feeling a little better.
