I had my dinner at 6pm as usual yesterday evening, so that things would be quiet by the time I went to bed.
12am came round and Norman started spurting out loads of really watery output, he was really noisy too! I'm not in any pain, but do feel a bit gassy (I keep burping too.)

Could this be a partial obstruction even though I'm not in pain?

I initially took some imodium and ate some marshmallows in an attempt to slow things down, no such luck! I also chucked a few gel sachets in my bag.
An hour later I woke up to find my bag well over half full. This was the third time I'd emptied it in two hours.
I've now had some dirolyte, a hot drink and massaged around my stoma....I'm feeling a little better. Norman isn't so noisy and doesn't feel quite so gassy.
I'm hoping he's settled down, I really need some sleep! It's 3:45 am and I have to get up at 7am!!

Oh, I did have a medium latte about 8:30pm, could that cause this?
I don't know why I had it, I rarely drink coffee, especially not in the evening! Doh! 😳

Absent, coffee is a diaretic(spelling off sorry) that could possibly be the problem. If it doesn't stop with in say 24-48 hrs I would call GI.

Thank you! Yes, I thought it could possibly have been that when I remembered I'd had one.
Goodness only knows why I had a coffee so late I the evening! I'm such and idiot!!

Your not a idiot, it happens sometimes we just want something so much we have it and forget that hey "I am gonna pay for that later" right now I am in flare and nothing is working for me and I am t the point where I have said sometimes big deal what I eat I am gonna pay for it later anyways. So don't beat urself up over it IT HAPPENS!! hugz and hope you feel better soon

I know that feeling well!
I'm sorry that you're flaring, I hope it settles down soon. Are you following a low fibre diet? Or is it all food that is bad?
Before my surgery I was in pain after eating anything, so followed a liquid only diet for 10 weeks, which really helped! Plus I saved loads on my food shopping because it was all on prescription.
I hope you feel better soon too!

I hope it has settled down now? Sometimes these things just happen unfortunately. Could've been the coffee, but that may have just been what put you over the edge more than likely.

What all have you eaten in the last 24 hours?

It has settled down a bit, but still very watery.

I don't think that I ate as much yesterday as I should have.
I didn't really have breakfast 😔 Then had some cold meat, salmon and bread for lunch, then slow cooked pork and carrot and swede mash for dinner. I had a raspberry mousse and a couple of handfuls of marshmallows.

I'm usually a lot better than that! Plus I always have breakfast. Am waiting to see the dietitian at the hospital right now, so I'll quiz him 😄

I find that it is often difficult to pinpoint exactly what has given me that very watery output. I take a couple of Immodium and try not to worry about it for 18 hours or so; usually by then it has thickened up again. After having Crohn's for so many years, I find it easier just to roll with the punches, if I can.

My output is nearly always really watery. I take 2 Imodium 3times a day but still just liquid. When it does get thicker I usually cannot pinpoint what did it (so I can repeat it). The watery o/p is awful as it erodes my flanges quickly, tends to cause leaks and splashes around n the bag. I need to get some of those satchels or powder you put in your bag. Does any one have any to suggest, and any Aussies maybe know where I might get a sample.

Hope your o/p has thickened.

Janette, there's a sticky at the beginning of the Stoma Sub-Forum on Ostomy Suppliers.HERE

Go down it and you will find that I have put in a link to the details of the suppliers whose products are available through the Australian Government scheme. Just ring them up, explain what you want and they will send you samples.

I remember having a spell where I had the same problem, My output was just constant water filling the bag every half an hour, I though it could have been a symptom for a blockage but they told me it was a bug and after a few days it did go away. Hope it gets back to normal soon!

Great advice already given! These things can come and go, for no rhyme nor reason. Sometimes its a bug, and sometimes our stomas just want to run on turbo. :)

Thanks for all the advice! I don't know what I would do without you guys!
Normal service has resumed now, thank goodness. I spoke to my dietitian about it, he said it could have been the milk. I guess I just have to get used to Norman being a bit unpredictable!

I had that when I ate pineapple! I stupidly tried to change my bag at the same time. I literally had brown water constantly squirting out and had to change over the sink! Was a nightmare!!!!

Glad it's better now!!
