I am posting on behalf of a very kind hearted good friend. His name is Ryan Maudlen and he has Crohns. Ryan and kathi were on a road trip of a life time. From Vancouver Canada to South America. This is the latest update.
Just talking to Kathi and she asked me to share a little more about what is happening. A few days ago while traveling in Mexico he was struck by a tragic situation. Something you might not know about Ryan is he has Crohn's disease. This condition has caused a perforation of his intestines leading to blood poisoning which left him fighting for his life. After under-going extensive surgery which removed 60cm of his intestines a possible side effect of this major operation is blood poisoning which unfortunately has happened. This has caused organ failure, he has water in his lungs, his heart was beating at around 171bpm, his kidneys and liver were also affected by this.
After this tragic turn in his condition he had to be transferred to Galenia hospital in Cancun that has the appropriate medical equipment and staff to help him survive. The doctors have put him in an induced coma so his body can rest and recover. Kathi has been and is doing everything she can to make sure Ryan has everything he needs to have the best chance of surviving. He is in an intensive care unit and is on a lot of medication, he requires constant medical supervision to keep him alive and help fight the poisoning so he can stay with us. The cost of medication just for 2 days has been $27,000 which doesn't include the doctor and anesthesiologist bills, which are mounting. Kathi has had to pay these bills daily to keep him in the hospital. The total bill for the care is approaching $100,000. kathi and especially Ryan could use your help.
