Hello,

Personally I have not had a capsule endoscopy, but I would be asking your doctor if you could have some imaging such as an MRI to check if there are any narrowings where the pill camera could become stuck. If not, I would enquire about trying with a dummy pill first, dummy pills will dissolve naturally in the body if they get suck which means it is harmless and does not need to be surgically removed, if the dummy pill gets through okay then the camera pill will too. Also, I'd question the amount of time they give the pill to get out of your body as some people with digestive disorders have slower gut transit (the amount of time it takes from eating food to excreting it) and so it can take a day or two for it to come out naturally.

Hello Toota, i had a capsule endoscopy on the 25th... they can do a 'dummy pill' as mentioned above, speak to your doctor and say you would like to do one as they are a good test to whether it is likely to pass through your system with ease.
As for the 8 hours, that is your small bowel only, if the capsule doesn't pass through to the large bowel they will usually call you to arrange an xray to check it out to make sure it has passed to the large bowel. Some peoples gut just works slower and as long as it reaches the large bowel when they do the xray they will leave it to run its course. The capsule can take a few days to pass through the system in its entirety. They will usually try a few things to get the capsule out before surgery as that is their final option that they will try to avoid. Try not to dwell on the surgery as that is a worse case senario and they just have to inform you of the risks before you go ahead. I hope everything goes well if you go ahead and keep us posted on how it goes :)
