Just curious if anyone has had any relief with essential oils. It sounded crazy to me at first but was willing to try anything. My little guy yet again has been showing inflammation so I thought what the heck and started rubbing his feet and tummy every night. His inflammation levels began to lower, crp from 12 to 7 then to 3. Still not totally convinced it was due to the oils but curious if anyone else has had any success?

My wife uses peppermint oil for headaches. I have tried it also. It does work, but for myself it only lasts for a couple hours.

I don't know how it affects systematic inflammation.

I just started experimenting yesterday with my essential oils and I had a GREAT day symptom-wise. I went from going 15 times per day to 0 yesterday. But because it was only one day, I don't want to say for sure it was because I tried my oil. It could have been some weird coincidence. I am continuing to try while slowly reducing my med dosage. That way, I know better if the oil appears to be working. So stay tuned.....

That is great Jen C. Whatever it was/is I am very happy you had at least one day of relief. Please keep me updated as I am very curious of the results as you continue.

I have found that peppermint does wonders for my headaches. Peppermint/lemon/lavender blend is a nice one for allergies. Eucalyptus for asthma for my DD and i.... Oh and frankincense for both pain/nausea seems to help

I cant say if its done anything for my inflammation levels as i hadnt had them checked till recently so we shall see going forward but i know i FEEL better

I was just starting to experiment with the Doterra oils before I got really sick. I have several friends at work (health care professionals) who swear by them. They help my kids, but I know part of that is placebo. They calming/serenity ones help them sleep though. There is a digestive blend that I'm going to start trying again--since my symptoms seem to be at a stand still its worth a try. I'll let you know how it goes.

I just started Doterra frankincense and digestzen. Two drops of each in for an ounces of water with a little bit of coconut oil to help with absorption. Supposed to do it twice today but the frankincense oil is so expensive… Almost $100 for 15 ml. MAybe it is available elsewhere for cheaper ?

I use the DigestZen (the digestive one that you're mentioning) and I do believe it's helping. I apply a couple of drops topically on my belly and rub it in. Let us know how it goes once you start using it. I think it works, because I have been able to decrease my Entocort to 6 mg a day using the DigestZen.:thumright:

You could probably find something similar, but the DigestZen is a proprietary blend. Another essential oils company that I like and use is Edens Garden. Be careful though.... I don't think it's safe to ingest oils. Sounds like you are because you're adding them to water? Oil and water don't mix remember.

The doterra oils are safe for ingestion and have instructions for if they need dilution. That is of course in non Crohn's specific population, so I'm not sure about the difference there.

I havent tried ingestion of the digestzen (we are a doterra house too) but i can say topically, if im having a bad day symptom wise, i feel better and take fewer trips to the bathroom i think. I dont know how much of that is placebo effect, or why it helps... but like my youngest with lavender for sleep, im not sure i care WHY it helps as long as it does

I'm with you aideen33. As long as it helps, I don't need to know the "science" behind it, but I do not believe it's a placebo effect. I have reading up on essential oils and why and how they work, skipping over the deep science. My husband laughingly calls it "voodoo" but there's something to it for sure. :)

Im inclined to agree if only because i know that DigestZen contains peppermint which i used years ago for morning sickness, peppermint tea and starlight mints saved me during my first pregnancy. I also know Eucalyptus is used in cough drops all the time so it makes sense to me why that helps when we have a bad breathing day around here.

Frankincense i cant explain but i swear it helps
