My guts have been making really loud and weird noises for days now. The noises range from a low rumbling to a squeaking sound. Does anyone else experience this and is it something to be concerned about? I'm currently undiagnosed awaiting investigations.

I have experienced very loud bowel sounds over the years and while I think there are a variety of potential causes, in my case they were due to strictures.

I think it's something to take note of - more than something to be concerned about - as it can, in combination with your other symptoms, be an indication of what is going on with you but again it's all about the testing and imaging.

Have you had a stool test done? It could possibly be an infection.

I did hand in a stool sample for a faecal calprotectin but the lab refused to do anything with it as it apparently has to be requested by a consultant.
I had blood tests done recently and they all came back normal, would an infection not show up with a raised WCC and CRP?

I was thinking something like C Diff or another bacteria that they could test for in your stool. I think your GP would be able to send that in - I think it's just faecal calpro that needs to be sent by a GI.

It could be useful because people with IBD are more likely to get infections like that - and it's something to rule out instead of an IBD diagnosis. Any disruption in healthy gut flora can (I believe) cause you to have loud bowel sounds. Certainly that was part of it for me with SIBO. Strictures and bowel obstruction (whether partial or an obstruction in the colon, as far as I've read) can cause increased bowel sounds.

I don't think its c diff, I've looked after patients with c diff and I'm now an expert on sniffing it out (gross I know!) but I think its definitely worthwhile getting a stool culture done just to see if there is any growth of bacteria.

When my bowel sounds were the loudest, it was due to stricturing. It was pretty embarrassing in the middle of an exam in university when it sounded almost like oil glugging out of a bottle. It has been a source of amusement for many years. At other times, it has almost sounded like a jet engine whooshing. Do you feel pressure building up that is relieved when you get the sounds?

I developed a stricture this years and that's when I started having noises too.

Last week I drank some irish mint milk (they make it every St Patricks Day). Loudest sounds I ever heard, sounded like my intestines were percolating. Good thing I was home recovering from a case of the ab cramps!!!

Sorry, I have no idea if it is something to be concerned about. But yes, I occasionally experience it. Normally after I have eaten something that is hard for me to digest - like chicken.

The pain in my lower right abdomen does seem to get worse as the noises get louder. If I put my hand where the pain is sometimes I can feel movement like a sort of vibrating gurgling feeling.
