I've recently discovered that there IS a family history of IBD on my mother's side. My mother discovered at a family reunion that my great aunt had UC. She was diagnosed at 17 with extreme rectal bleeding, her treatment was some sort of enema. This would have been around 1950. Apparently, though, once she hit menopause her symptoms went away. Has anyone heard of or experienced this?

Also, her great aunt's son (so my... second cousin once removed?) had Crohn's, like me. But he died from it. No details since he lived out of state. Not exactly what I wanted to hear, haha.

Hi there,

This is just my own personal experience so I can't speak in general terms but I was confirmed to be going through the menopause last year and if anything my symptoms have got worse (I should add that while I have all the symptoms I am still not diagnosed). Not sure if that helps any though.
