After a diagnosis of IBS on top of IBD, I stopped the low fibre diet for a high fibre diet gluten free and limited lactose. For the last week the pain has got significantly worse and I have started bloating with distension worse on my left hand side. I have gone back to low fibre but feeling dreadful. My next GI appointment is end of September and I don't feel I can ring my hospital again after my disappearing strictures farce. I was told the pain was adhesions but I felt they said that to keep me from asking for another test. I have an appointment with my GP on Friday but feeling very lost and exhausted. :(

Adding fiber to my diet after surgery resulted in a similar state, but mine is bearable. The thing is, according to my surgeon, to slowly work your way up to the fiber level you ultimately want to reach. Their suggestion was adding 5grams to my daily diet, then let my body adjust to that for about two weeks. Then add another five, wait two weeks. Work up to the 20 gram range.

Their quote was if I went straight from low residue to high fiber I'd "blow up" and it would be counterproductive.

Just a thought in case you leapt right from low fiber to high fiber.

Hi Daisy123. Sorry you're dealing with this. Sending you my support.

Daisy, I have no advice, but I hope you feel better! It can be frustrating to deal with all those symptoms!

I do think I overdid it as I had been low fibre for six months. I went Vegan as well! Bad idea I think. I am thinking of dropping gluten free, the bread and cereal I find absolutely indigestible and I just cannot afford it. The main pain is around my join, which makes me think that it is functional although it goes right through to the back. I managed to partially obstruct myself last week and I was in agony. I am unable to eat much at the moment. My GP won't prescribe Fortisip because it is too expensive and I find complan horrid especially with almond milk. I am just so fed up and I wish I hadn't had my last surgery as I feel worse than I did before it. I do feel really lost with this. I wonder if it is just stress although the only time I have looked pregnant is when I had strictures. I am rambling, sorry
