In the hospital again with an obstruction. We were here
Last summer with the same. Kyle had a resection in July of 2011. He was diagnosed. In January of 2010. Wishing i could make it all better for him. The NG tube is really
bothering him.

Welcome to the forum. So sorry that Kyle is struggling right now. We have a wonderful group of parents and I'm sure several will be along with the same experiences. I hope things improve quickly for Kyle.

Hi Kyle's mom... sorry to hear he's obstructed. My son hates NG tubes. I've heard there is a numbing spray? Not sure it can be used once it's already inserted, but worth asking about.

Hang in there!

Hi Kyle’s Mom and :welcome:

I am so, so sorry to hear about your lad, bless him. :ghug:

I hope they are able to resolve the obstruction quickly and whatever is causing it is easily fixed. When my daughter had her NG tube in it was the one thing that she hated above all else...just hanging there and being all uncomfortable! :eek2:

Do you know if it the same problem causing the obstruction this time as last?

Sending loads of hugs and healing thoughts your way. Good luck!

Sorry to hear things aren't good. Hope things improve soon. My son hated getting the NG tube in, it seemed okay while in, but got irritating inside the nostril. We just used to put some Vaseline just under the tube.

I had an NG tube in a few weeks ago for an entire week. It was awful so i feel his pain. They gave me some lidocaine spray I could use every few hours. It wasn't the best but it did give me some relief even though it tasted awful

We have tried the spray, ice chips & cough drops with no relief. He says it feels like a knife stabbing him in the back of the throat. They called the doctor and he said theycould give him benadryl to try to make him sleep better. He had some earlier today as prep with the remicade.
The doctor said we won't know if the cause is scar tissue from surgery or the crohns until the stetoids kick in. If they dont work it is scar tissue and surgery would be next.

Poor Kyle! Really sorry to hear he's so miserable. We haven't had any experiences with NG tubes but I'm going to tag Tesscorm - I think her son used a really small tube, would that maybe help?

Unfortunately I don’t think a smaller tube would be an option Maya. :(

I imagine the tube isn’t for feeds but on free drainage to drain the stomach contents and so prevent vomiting due to the blockage.

Ugh! I hope he isn’t flaring on remicade but then I don’t want him to have surgery either! :(

I hope the Benadryl has worked mum.

Hope he starts to feel better soon. It's a terrible feeling not being able to make things better, but remember you are doing everything you can for your boy and this will pass and things will be on the right track again soon. Stay strong.
