So iv upped my dose of imuran to 100mg which iv been on since Monday last week, before that I was on 50mg for about a month, anyway, crohn's symptoms have been gone for a while but recently iv been feeling so tired, absolutely no energy, and also pretty damn nauseous - I Havnt thrown up, but I just feel like ****, it's been like a week straight of feeling like this, my mood is really low, iv lost weight from eating less due to the sickness, my blood tests came back good, liver function looked good, why do I feel so crap, if I wake up feeling sick again I don't know what I'll do, if it's not one thing it's something else, not even my mmj is helping :(

Hi Joshuaaa,

So sorry that you feel so bad, I also have recentley upped my dose of Azathioprine (imuran) from 100mg to 125mg and it has taken me a couple of weeks for the nausea to subside. I do feel extremley tired however and think this is something that comes from having UC aswell as taking the azathioprine. Give it a little while longer as it may just be your body adjusting to the higher dose.
Have you tried taking it at night after your meal? It definitley helped me, I have a bowl of cereal around 7pm and then by the time the effects start kicking in I am usually asleep.

Hope you feel better soon!

I was just going to say the same as above...try taking it with food.
Have you tried taking anti nausea tablets..they helped my daughter a lot.

My daughter had a lot of nausea and vomiting when she first started on 50mg imuran...... She is starting 125mg tomorrow.

Good luck

:( Hope the side effects do go away soon.
This happened to me quite severely and that is when they tested for TPMT and found I was deficient. I seem to remember you have been tested for that and are ok though?

I have it after Dinner with my pentasa, don't usually feel any extra nausea after taking it, it's been a systemic thing, for instance it starts when I wake up and comes and goes :( I hate this disease and all the baggage that comes with it

Hi Joshuaaa. I hope you feel better soon. Sometimes even if we try hard. Depression takes the best of us. I allow my self down once in a while but only for 1 day. If you think you can not get out of it, look for help. Want to vent away? we are here for you like you have been for us. Hang in there, You are going to be better soon. HUGS GOING YOUR WAY

Joshuaa, First thing you need to do is change your attitude! I've been dealing with Crohns since 2001 and only until the last three years....doing great! I have used just about all the meds listed below. I only take humira now with no other meds. Hang in there, it will take some time just like everything else in life, thats worth waiting for!!

Sorry to hear how sick you've been feeling, Joshuaaa. I am sending hugs and keeping you in my prayers. The Aza at 150 mgs a day did the same to me, think it just goes along with taking Aza. One of my favorite things to tell myself is "This too, shall pass"....and it always does pass, sooner or later. We earn the right to get down with this disease, but let it wash over you and then get to the other side of it. We are strong, and we always DO get to that other side. Hugs!!

try eating it with your dinner rather than after and keep an eye on the bloodshed .. i feltd much the same and became pancytopenic so just be wary. hope it passes!!

I have general nausea also, systemic, as you call it, it has been one of my symptoms all along, throughout all the changes in medication. It can really get you down. Just know that you aren't alone in this, and the people in this forum are very supportive.

Is there any chance that this could just be the flu? Here's hoping.

From what i've just read though this seems fairly typical on Aza, hopefully it'll settle itself soon enough buddy. Stay strong.

Thanks guys, I'm hoping its just a flu or something but I Havnt had sore throat, sinus probs or anything, more than likely from the Aza today's a little bit better but still feelin pretty off it, my GP recommended having 50mg during day and 50mg at night so I'm gonna try this method, if it continues into a few weeks or gets worse im gonna get on the LDN train one way or another. Taking a few days off the old marijuana to see if that's got anything to do with it.

I felt that way when I was taking Imuran as well. Its an immune system suppressor, so naturally it beats up your body.....which is most likely why the feelings of weakness and low energy happen. When I took it sometimes I would come home from work and just veg on the couch and thats all my day would consist of lol.
Hope your feeling better soon tho, happy thoughts your way!

Been feeling a lot better for about a week, felt nauseas again past 2 days though, mainly when I'm hungry. Good old imuran, dbl edged sword... I'm sure it's knocking crohns well into remission, so I gotta keep trucking on

Hey I know where your coming from with those feelings..I recently got my Aza upped to 125 mg to try and stop this hellish flare and the tiredness and weakness and nausea is very apparent but things feel like they are getting better. It seems like my last option, If I don't gain weight I don't know what to do after this besides surgery.

Sorry to hear you flared on it, I am guessing I'm probably the skinniest person on here, 5 ft 8/9 and only 115 pounds ATM (iv always been really skinny though it's never really bothered me). The fatigue I can deal w, I use MJ almost everyday so im used to being a bit doped ha, I just hate nausea (but then again who doesn't). All in all I'm pretty certain im heading into remission, bloods are good, symptoms are gone, I get my FCP results back on tues so I'll post them. Hoping that's in normal range, then all I can do is wait it out. I see a lot of promise in helminthic therapy and also SSI vaccines, I think in the next few years theyl be readily available so I just gotta sit tight

Nah I didn't flare on Aza I started it when symptoms first started. I just kept going up and up as the flare went on and the months went on. Didn't start working good til 3 months in but still not getting me there 100%. I'm 125 @ 5'10 ..

Glad to hear your symptoms are getting under control and going to remission. I feel like I'm getting close to where you are but I dunno..

The therapies look interesting I'll have to check up on that and see how well its working for people.

If you're getting good, id try and get your weight up. I think a good fat/muscle buffer would be a great thing in case you flare again. When I'm able to gain again, I'm going up to 180 or 190. Maybe I'm wrong but I just don't feel safe being underweight with this disease.

Iv always struggled to put on weight, my metabolism is super fast (either that or iv just never absorbed nutrients 100% - but my family is also skinny w no crohn's so I'd say genetically I'm just a bit of a deer haha

I was always "too skinny" when I was young too, Joshuaaa, so getting Crohn's made that even worse. The nurses at the hospital never believed me when they'd made me drink barium, I'd tell them as soon as I finished one that they should start x-raying....they would say, "Oh, not yet, it can't be down where we need it yet". Then when they did x-ray, they'd find it was past where they needed it to be, lol!

Are you on any other meds??? I had a mystery "illness" that made me feel like what you are describing and it turned out to be the antibiotic I was on. I was on it for a month with no problems so it didn't even dawn on me that it could be that. My nurse said I may have hit a toxicity level on it. I stopped taking it and felt almost back to normal the next day and now am totally better!! : )

I'm on 100 mg imuran, 10mg pred (and tapering), and 4g pentasa, starting to feel a bit better, hopefully it keeps improving :)

I am sorry Joshua,

I don't know the feeling of taking Imuran regularly because when I tried it it made me stop breathing. I take Remicade every 2 months, and the day of and after sucks. I just want to crawl in my bed and not do anything.

I think the daily use of steroids, anti-inflammatory meds, pain meds, anti-biotics, stress from home, friends, work, money issues, gf/bf issues, religion issues, politics, and the daily battles we go through everyday really puts us in a horrible cycle of depression. We want to be positive and proactive but we can't because we are limited or back to square one every time because of our illness. Being forced to be a reactive person really sucks.

I just hope your flare comes down soon. Try to stay away from medical marijuana because it makes things worse because you get lazy, sleepy, eat more, and feel crappy. Try to think positive. Set mini-goals. Achieve them. Don't worry about what others say or think about you. I bet your family loves you. They only wish for you to get better. Don't forget to appreciate what you have... because a lot of us don't have that.

I know you can do it. :] Stay strong.

Thanks buddy, I'm not flaring anymore, pretty sure I'm in remission, feel pretty good today, as for stayin away from the marijuana that might prove difficult haha but I try just do it at night as opposed to what I was doing. On a lighter note, had an Easter egg this morning, first piece of chocolate iv had in over 6 months, damn it was good haha

I know what you mean. I normally stay away from chocolate but my friend she gave me a Toblerone and I couldn't help myself... I ate it up :] lol Well I am glad you are in remission.

Thanks bud, well atleast clinical remission, I'm newly on Aza (almost 2months) I imagine that in another month I'll be feelig even better

Hi upsetmom, I'm not feeling too bad ATM, sometimes I feel a bit sick but I'm getting better and it's subsiding more and more, I find it's mainly when I'm hungry that I feel a bit nauseous
