I was diagnosed w/ Crohn's 5 years ago and now I am afraid that I have another disease.

Anyway, I sometimes have tingling in my left fingers, my feet turn purple and blue regularly, and my heart rate is over 110 at rest. I had an EKG and Echocardiogram. My heart works functionally, it just beats too fast. My primary doc is testing me for a group of diseases i.e. RA, Lupus, MCTD, Raynauds, Sclereoderma. I have already been tested for hyper and hypo thyroidism, and my results were negative.

My question for people here is:

Have you ever had these symptoms?
Did they start before OR after you took bio-logic's like remicade or humira?
Do you have any suggestions for me?

Thanks for the feedback:)

Currently flaring. Taking Entocort, Pentasa, anti-depressants, anti-anxiety meds. Bentyl doesn't work, I am allergic to Remicade and can't tolerate Humira. Gastro wants me to start Cimzia now, but I am scared!

I've always had a rapid heartbeat as well. When I was in the hospital this past December, they actually put me in ICU for observation. Didn't find a damn thing...lol Like you, even at rest my heartbeat is around 100 - 105...it only slows down when I'm sleeping.

I don't have the tingling, or the colour change though. Don't know what that could be.

Sorry this hasn't been more helpful...good luck to you though!!

Hiya

I sometimes have rapid heartbeats too, had it checked , nothing sinister, was put down to anxiety!
But my friend has symptoms like yours in all extremeties, and she has Raynauds.

I would assume your doctors thought of this, but did you have the symptoms you mention prior to taking Pentasa? Mesalamine has as its rarer side effects tachycardia (rapid heart beat) as well as Lupus. If your docs haven't ruled out a connection, you may want to ask them about it.

My mother has all of the symptoms that you mentioned and she has been diagnosed with Schleraderma, RA and Raynaud's. Auto-immune diseases often overlap, so it would not be unreasonable to suspect that you could have any or all of these. I would get it checked out. FYI, my mother has been helped immensely by a drug called Plendil, which is usually prescribed for high blood pressure, but works by relaxing and widening your arteries. She does not have high BP, but her doctor thought this drug might help her and it really has.

I hope you get some answers soon.

Hi fateful one ~ I get tingling sometimes in my fingers and also in my toes. It has been diagnosed as the early stages of peripheral neuropathy, which is a symptom of various diseases, including Crohn's apparently. It is caused by poor circulation. There is no cure, but a good way to slow it down is to do some regular exercise.

I also have quite a fast heart rate (often 100 bpm), but there is nothing wrong with my heart. I have been told it is likely to be because I have low BP, as the 2 often go together as though the heart speeds up to compensate for the low BP.

I don't get the purple feet though, which does sound more like Raynauds as others have said. But my feet are often cold, particularly the toes.

Update

Hi all - Thanks for the feedback!

I got the results of some blood work that my doc ordered for me. I tested neg for RA and the presence of anti-nuclear anti-bodies. This suggests that I do not have another auto-immune disease like Scleroderma, Sjogrens or Lupus but it doesn't prove anything either.

My doc is sending me to a rheumatologist, hopefully they can figure it out. Maybe they have some better tests that they can run on me. I personally suspect Raynaud's and bad anxiety for the symptoms, but who knows.

I do not think it is a Pentasa side effect because I had been on Pentasa for a few years before have these symptoms, but it is something I plan on looking into. I want to cover all of my bases.

Thanks again for all the feed back:) I'll be back w/ updates!

Hi fateful one, the tingling in your fingers could very well be a sign of low B12, have you had your B12 checked lately? That's what happend to me when I had tingling sensation in my fingers, it's the first sign of lack of B12 and can lead to permanent nerve damage so you should get that checked asap.

My daughter has raynauds (I don't) but it only affects her fingers, not her toes, though it can certainly affect toes too.

Good luck!
