Hi Everyone
I have my first colonosopy on august 8th at 9am. What can I expect? I'm suppose to be going to a cottage that evening; being picked up around 5pm. Should I be making arrangements to go saturday or cancel completely?

I usually come home and have a nap after mine. If you have a nap like I do, you might still be a bit groggy afterwards but coherent enough to enjoy an evening with friends/family.

I think you will be fine going to the cottage that night. The worst part is the prep and once you actually get scoped you are just sleepy for a few hours afterwards. And very hungry!!

Good luck and have fun on your trip.:)

The actual procedure is nothing, the prep is horrible foul tasting liquid, you just generally feel tired after it,so if your going some nice after it enjoy.good luck all the best

Hey there

Generally in the US the sedation is pretty good for scopes, so you probably wont remember it.

You might be drowsy after, so make sure you have a little time for a nap if you need one, or if you can sleep in cars maybe sleep on the way. You might also be a little sore for a few days, so make sure that you have some painkillers. Generally though, I don't think you need to cancel your trip, just warn loved ones you might be a little dopey that evening and you might not be super active. I think having something to look forward to will really help get through the prep as well :)

And you might be really gassy - they pump you full of air to do the scope and it all has to go somewhere if you know what I mean. My son has had pretty bad cramping because of the gas along with a lot of toots.

Hi cwilliam! We can be virtual colonoscopy buddies, as I have a colonoscopy and endoscopy on August 8, also! I check in at 9:30 am and it is scheduled to start at 10:30 am. Good luck!
