Hello all, I had my surgery two weeks ago and the recovery process has been long including having multiple abscesses drained and a yeast infection. I've been drinking liquids for a while now but they are really pushing me to start eating. my surgeon told me that I could eat whatever I felt up to, I don't want to push the limits because I was diagnosed only about 3 weeks ago and don't know much about what I can and can't eat yet.

Im looking for ideas on soft foods that rarely cause flare ups and are easily digested after surgery. I tried some saltines and cheerios but for some reason I couldent get over the dryness.

Thank you, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I ate mashed potatoes first, then scrambled eggs, drank instant breakfast that had powdered milk added for extra protein. I had diarrhea at first, so be prepared just in case. Nobody warned me - I guess they thought I would be afraid to eat, but I had watched the food channel imagining what the food would taste like, and I was hungry!!

All what have been said so far. I'll add that if you never had issue with dairy, yogurt and cheese are usually easy. Rice is a good start. Then when you feel confident to try fruit and vegetable i'd suggest Banana/apple/apricot cooked purees; Mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots are generally the easy vegetables, once again cooked. Tapioca pudding, arrowroot cookies, baby food in general. That being said, I usually follow the baby food guide to determine in which order reintroduce food.

I started with toast white bread with butter (then peanut butter), mashed potatoes, ice cream (I don't seem to have an issues with milk products), pretty much anything that was soft and didn't require my body to do a lot to digest. I would suggest limiting fiber for a little while since it binds and can be uncomfortable (at least in my experience too much fiber has not been good for me). I think I then started adding in plain chicken, and then seasoned chicken. My recovery so far has gone really well (11 weeks on Thursday) and I can eat pretty much anything I want now (still limiting fiber to a degree since I have had issues with this for a while). Good luck!

Hello, I just got home from hospital myself, bowel resection, 6 more inches including valve in terminal illium. I ate mashed potatoes day 4 after surgery, next graham crackers, apple juice. Mind you day 3 I had broth and jello, for brkfst, lunch, dinner. I had bm by day 3 evening. As long as you had some sort of bm, then you can move on with food! Day 5, eggs and toast breakfast, chicken and rice lunch, dinner turkey cheese sand. No lettuce.

I am hesitant to drink oj, milk, acidic juices. And to eat, lettuce, salsa, melted cheese, meat(red) bacon, raw veggies, fruits with seeds. It feels too early to be risky.

Also, drink lots.

I had enchelladas with refried beans and tortilla tonight, granite i only had 5 bites of each, and i feel ok. Day 10

I would suggest that if the idea of earing a certain food makes you cringe, don't eat it. Fallow your gut.

I am all on pain killers, sorry for mispelling. Good luck

you deffinately want to avoid nuts and seeds...
