So up until last night I have been very lucky. Sure I've had leaks (mostly my own fault) and some wafer issues early on but last night was a complete different story...
I had a super stressful few days and have not been sleeping well so early yesterday I wasn't feeling myself and attributed it to being over tired. I went to bed early but woke up about 1:30 am covered in my output. I guess Gertrude was annoyed about her upcoming going away party on October 10th and decided to show me who's boss lol... Believe me, I wasn't laughing last night!!!
This was my first real blowout and I was mortified! I had to do a wafer change with one eye open and of course Gertrude decided to be super active.., I mean it was EVERYWHERE. I was having a meltdown but eventually got myself together.
My husband slept through the whole thing but I had to wake him to take the sheets off... He was sweet but got right back to sleep before I could even put fresh linens back on the bed.
October 10th can't come fast enough for me. I would rather wear diapers for a while than have to go through that again! Hopefully this won't happen again.
Sorry so long.. Thanks for giving me a place to vent :)

:stinks: It does sound like Gertrude wanted one last chance, or shall I say one last stand!

Awful thing to happen to you. Sounds like you need some downtime and some TLC to get yourself feeling 100% before your op.

It happens to the best of us! It's traumatic when it happens, especially at night when you are tired and covered in poo on yourself and your sheets.

Hang in there! - Amy

This is an embarrasing experience to say the least. It was my worst nightmare scenario when I had the bag.

I had my first blowout with my first bag, in the hospital. They gave me this little bag that I thought must be some kind of joke. I dumped it a few times and fell a sleep and woke up covered in you know what. I got one arm that works, the other is temporarily paralyzed from surgery. All I can do is call the nurse. She cleaned me up and I felt like an idiot.

The Stoma nurse came later, and I said I need a much larger bag. She gave me one made for circus animals I think. It worked much better, but it was not my last blowout.

The next bad one was using my Uncle and Aunts bed while we were on vacation. It is one thing to dump in your own bed, it is quite another to dump in someone elses. You can imagine the embarrasment of that episode.

You know what, it happens and you get through it. It is just one of those things you learn to live with because you have to.

I quote the Johnny Cash song: "I don't like it but I guess things happen that way".

Thank you for the support! I've read about blowouts and in the back of my head always knew it was a possibility... I had been lucky up until then but it was tough...
Dan I have such respect for all that you have been through! I struggled a lot in the beginning with the use of both hands, I'm amazed at your ability to manage with one! Btw how is the reversal recovery going?

I still have the big D but other than that it is going well.

By the way, I forgot to mention I started using a large pad to sleep on to help contain the mess when I did have a blow out. Most of them were smaller leaks and the pad helped a lot

Good Luck.

Dan
