Hi

I've been reading some of the threads here for a few weeks and finally had the courage to join. I have found it so helpful and reassuring recently, there are some things about Crohn's that only those who have it will understand so this is such an important lifeline.

Thank you!

Hi and welcome! Glad you decided to join us (took me a while to pluck up the courage too :))

Hi Sandstone and :welcome:

I'm so glad you found us. We are a friendly bunch, promise! :)

Do you feel you would like to tell us little about your Crohns story, like how long you've been diagnosed or had symptoms, have you had any operations, are you on any medication? Hope I'm not sounding too nosey. :eek2:

I hope you stick around so we can get to know each other better. Welcome aboard!

Take care,
Dusty

Welcome to the board Sandstone. I am new myself and have been welcomed by some great people so far! We are all here to help support each other. You are right only us people with Crohn's who have it understand. :) Welcome!

Thanks for the welcomes!

DustyKat I've had Crohn's for 18 years although it doesn't seem like that as the disease provides a surprising amount of variety, like lots of illnesses rolled into one. I've had two major surgeries for fistulas and abscesses and have just been told I have to have another resection for a stricture. They have tried balloon dilatation 3 times in last few months but that has been unsuccessful. Just negotiating the vagaries of the NHS at the moment waiting for Barium FT date then they will know how much to remove. Living on ensure and tramadol at the moment, delicious lol

reidyjo81 I live in Ealing - the Queen of Suburbs - well bits of it anyway!

Welcome Sandstone! I'm new here as well but have found this to be a safe place to vent and a wonderful source of information.

Apologies - for the record I am not an NHS basher! I am really lucky to have outstanding treatment from one of the most reputable hospitals in the country. It has to be said though that the system can be frustrating as I'm sure has been discussed ad nauseum on this forum. Some frustrating realities:

Waiting for an appointment with the consultant and occasionally being seen by a "newly born" doctor on rotation with little knowledge/interest in the ins and outs (so to speak) of Crohn's

Knowing that an operation will restore quality of life and that spending £10,000 would make it happen in 2 weeks

asap can mean a wait of up to 16 weeks unless an emergency admission happens before that. This waiting time can have devastating consequences on health, work and personal lives.

These realities are probably minor for most but I just thought them important enough to be mentioned...despite being a fan of the NHS...honest!

ha ha ha sorry Sandstone
didn't mean to insinuate that you're an NHS basher!!
