Hi! I was diagnosed in 1998-1999, and have had two or three 'flares' since-I've been lucky. I have since developed Bechets syndrome, which is another sign of an over-active autoimmune system.
I would be interested to hear from anyone who has been prescribed Azathioprine for more than 12 years, and also from anyone on 'Humira' -Adalimumab. My (new) consultant wants to discuss my changing to Humira in the near future, due to the long-term side effects of Azathioprine. I'm rather dubious at the moment and would appreciate others input. Thanks

Welcome,
my rheumatologist office specializes in Bechets syndrome. I'm on Humira for arthritis and crohn's. my only side effects were when i uped the dose to once a week for the first two months i had headaches but they've gone away. Other then that no problems.

Greetings and welcome! I hadn't heard of Bechet's before and just looked it up. My goodness, that must be tough to have on top of Crohn's Disease, you poor thing.

Regarding Humira, we have a Humira support forum you may want to check out and of course you're welcome to post any queries you have in there.

Again, welcome, and I hope to see you around :)

Hi Jillibean and welcome! I don't have experience with Aza or Humira, so I can't offer any advice. I can understand your doctor's concerns with Aza, but there are side effects for each treatment option, Humira included. Is Aza still working well for you? If so, then you may want to stick with it. Then, if it loses effectiveness in the future, you can then switch to Humira. However, only you and your doctor know what is best for you. Good luck with the decision you make!

Hi! that's exactly how I feel about it at the moment.Aza is working well so far, and is useful in Behcets, which is why my old consultant was happy for me to stay on it. Humira hasn't been around for too long, and has its own problems. I can't see any advantage in changing now - perhaps in the future, of which hopefully I will have a few more decades yet!
Thanks for your thoughts x
