Hello everyone. tomorrow im having surgery on what the doctor says is a 12 inch fistula that has branched off to form another 2. also im having a colonoscopy because they strongly suspect Crohn's due to other symptoms i have, for example cramps after eaten certain foods. diarrhoea most of the and extreme tiredness.
This will be my third op for fistulas but my first colonoscopy. They have given me something called movi-prep x 2 sachets and another called klean-prep x 4 sachets . Do i take both of these? i am to go into hospital 11am uk time tomorrow so when should i start taken them? also im on other medication for pain and depression. can i take these as normal? any advice will be gratefully received.

Im quite scared of Crohn's and i guess im desperately seeking reassurance.

well i had a horrendous experience in hospital yesterday. they practically butchered me then threw me out. They give me no dressings and paracetamol as a painkiller. i have a picture of my wound but i dont want to offend anyone by putting it up. I feel extremely emotional and so scared of infection. i dont even know what they done to be honest. i just have this great big hole in my buttocks :(

can someone please tell me im being silly and im going to be fine. the wound seems huge to me. i can see my mussels etc . :(

I am sorry, i don't have any experience of that kind of surgery but i just want to send my hugs. Do you have some kind of home nurse who come to change your dressingd or something?

phoned my gp today and he's very un happy of the care i received and he's sending out a nurse for me today so that's picked me up. my partner is being great keeping it clean etc but she doesn't know what to look for regarding infections etc. thank you very much for your reply its much appreciated.

I am glad you got that nurse coming to see you! That should be helpful so they can check that everything in that wound is ok. And packing that, it's not easy by yourself! Let us know how that first nurses home coming goes!

I don't have any experience with this - just wanted to say that I am sorry you had such an awful time at the hospital and no instructions/support when they sent you home. Hopefully the nurse can give you the info you need.

Did they do the scope? If so, did they give you any information about what they saw?

That is a horrendous experience for you., and should not happen to anyone.
How disgraceful of that hospital staff.
How cruel of the surgical staff to leave you like this.
It is good to hear you have some home care coming to help.
This is not something you can do on your own.
When you come up from down I think you should write to the hospital administrator with a copy to the Ministry of Health and tell them exactly what happened., to a very vulnerable patient.
It is inconceivable that the procedures would not have been explained to you in advance of the surgery and also what you should expect after surgery.,and with homecare in place prior to discharge.
At least you have a good GP picking up the pieces. Hopefully he will let his views be known to the hospital also.
You need a good gastroenterologist to take care of you from now on.
If the colonoscopy was not done you should ask your GP for a referral to a good gastroenterologist for care from now on.Don't let that hospital surgeon do it!
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes

How are you feeling now kevthedev? Also welcome to the forum. So sorry for the late reply.

I haven't had that particular surgery but generally with an open wound there is some sort of dressing and at least instructions on how to keep it clean, how to watch out for infection and have check ups to make sure its healing properly.

The fact that you weren't even told how to do the prep before the procedure is already alarming. :( I'm glad that your GP is helping you out and is taking care of things. I hope you're healing well now that you have proper care.

Were you diagnosed with Crohn's or are they still waiting on the biopsies? After all that treatment I'd want to see another GI so you don't have to go through something like this again.

hello everyone. thank you for your reply s, they are much appreciated. I only just seen these so sorry for not getting back to you. i will give you all an update later as im so tired i need to go to bed. thanks again folks
