tmi sorry in advance for the detail

I consider myself to have mild crohns however since i was diagnosed in 2006 ive always had diarrhea usually about 3 times at day (on a good day) and its usually quite watery/explosive...recently ive been on tablets for anemia after a blood test showed i was very low on iron (as i was in 2006).. but i dont think ive been flaring as i havent had any pain... but for the last week or so there is always undigested food in the diarrhea and for a few days there was mucus (ive never had either before even during bad flares). Im guessing this means something isnt quite right? but how come i have no pain?... it would seem like im flaring as all the other symptoms are bad apart from having no pain and the frequency of the diarrhea is about the same as it would be in remission (for me these are the 2 things that usually get worse during a flare)... does this mean im just having a very mild flare? :/

Your bowels will constantly change with crohn's and that's normal. Mucus is also normal with crohn's. If your concerned you could go to the doctor and have a CT and more blood work done. I know from experience they can tell if your having a flare up by those test. Good Luck. Hope this helps.

I see you put first colonoscopy july 2011...how were you diagnosed?

Mucus is a sign of inflammation and I don't think its out of the ordinary to not have any pain. I rarely had pain unless my doctor pressed on my abdomen. Even then the images during a scope looked a lot worse than I felt. I'd mention the symptoms to your GI doc including the diarrhea and how long you've had it for. When you're in remission you shouldn't be going that often. You're only on Pentasa for Crohn's currently so your doctor may be able to add another medication to get your symptoms under control.

I never had pain. The only way I knew I was flaring was if I got alot of sties on my eye, or rectal bleeding. If you don't think it's right, go to the doctor and find out for sure. Better to catch it early than to let it continue and possibly worsen.

When I was first diagnosed I had pain, but I don't really have pain anymore. I just get gas "pain" and cramps and such...

Thanks all

Ive had stomach pain ever since i can remember and when i was about 9 by older brother was diagnosed with crohns (its common in my family, my brother, gran, aunt and cousins on both my mum and dads side have it), so i had a blood test then and the said that i didnt have it... then 4 years later after going to my gp every other week basically with stomach pain i had another blood test and it came back that i was anemic and i lost 4 stone (only weighed 8 to begin with) and was having constant bloody D at this stage so i was admitted to a hospital and had a barium xray and was diagnosed after that so im guessing it must have showed something... didnt have a colonoscopy at the time as they thought it would just make the flare worse... after i was diagnosed i was on pred which seemed to completely clear it up for the next 2 years and they didnt want to do a colonoscopy then cause things where going so well... took me about 2 years to get an appointment with a consultant after ive been have minor symptoms for a good few years and he finally said a colonoscopy would be useful to see what exactly was going on... would love to have a read of my file just to see what exactly theyve found out over the last few years lol...

You should be able to get that information since it is in fact YOUR information. You can contact the doctors/hospitals and get a release of records or have your doctor tell you what it says and you can write it all down if you want. My doctors always showed me the images of all of my tests and answered any questions I had (while I was there in the office sitting in front of them anyway).

I was once told that the only pain our intestines can feel is "stretching." So for example when you have a blockage it will be painful because as things pile up it stretches you out further and further. But you won't feel the pain of ulceration... which is why we can burn holes in our guts to the point where we get a fistula or an abscess and not even know it... I think it's a blessing and a curse. It means there's less pain but it also means maybe you can't tell as easily when something is wrong.

I can't remember now where I heard that though, so while I believe it's true I'm not sure that I would stand behind it if asked. :p
