Hey everyone...my dr told me to take a vitamin with a lot of folic acid in it. I think he called it folate. Does enyone know why this might be and what foods have it as I REALLY do not want to pop another pill everyday.

I think folic acid is essential for the body to function. I am not sure but I think it helps with movement and brain functions. I have heard that some with the disease can become deficient in it due to malabsorption. It is also important for pregnant women to take for the health of the baby. I would take it if he recommended it...otherwise get a second opinion from another doc.

All I know is orange juice which doesn't bother me, but not sure if it will bother you or not.

I wish I could but it kills me. I can drink it in small doses. I will try that again and see how it goes....thanks

For sure, folic acid is important to have in your system before becoming pregnant. Not just during, but before. It's important for brain stem development I believe.
If you are taking a multivitamin anyways, I think the prenatal ones may have a higher amount of folate in them. That would cut out your extra pill.

I am not pregnant and not planning on being pregnant again...per doctors order. Is there a vitamin that you guys find works better as the ones I have tried often upset my stomach.

I am horrible about taking my meds in the first place. I have found that if I have to take anything it is better if I take it at night. When I took my via at night I was up all night with so much energy. I am not good at eating breakfast either so taking it in the am is really tough. I will have to find a happy medium.
