I just got back from my GI and he had some interesting onfo to share. He recently went to a GI conference and learned of a study that was done on pregnant women taking the Saccharomyces Boulardii supplement commercially know as Florastor.
It seems there is a correlation between asthma and not enough good bacteria in the colon, and conversly in Crohn's disease. In a clinical trial women who took Florastor while pregnant had babies with a greatly reduced instance of developing asthma,( even women who had asthma or where asthma was inherited) compared to those who did not take it.
My doctor said from the information he received he's recommending all of his Crohn's patients take Florastor and Culturelle-not only is it good for expectant Moms but it also reduces symptoms of asthma for those of us who already have it.
I'm giving it a try so I'll post an update in a few weeks and see if it helps my asthma symptoms.
