I have noticed I always have a UTI when I get my urine checked. Even after I take the perscribed antibiotics it is still there when the bottle is gone and I get rechecked. I have taken so many different antibiotics and its the same story... Anyone else have this problem??? And if so has an Dr. said it was Crohns related?

Just out of interest, on what basis are they saying you have an infection? Blood in urine, ketones, nitrates or actual bacteria? And do you have symptoms? Because blood, nitrates and ketones can be caused by other things than UTIs, and bacteria could be from contamination.

Otherwise, diabetes can cause frequent infections, as can a fistula.

Well, I'm dealing with that issue as of recently and I don't know what is behind all that yet. I am getting screened for fistula, even though I don't have all the symptoms that would really relate to that, they are trying to rule that hypothesis out. I'll know about it soon.
So yeah, persistent UTI may be the sign of a bowel to bladder fistula. Usually there would also be fecal matter and/or air too on occasion. If you feel like you have air, that is a very good chance to suggest a fistula.

On the other hand, some people do have a tendency to get repetitive UTI even though they are mostly healthy and often, doctors can't really tell why they do have that. Two friends of mine had that issue, one went to a bunch of specialist to be eventually told to always "overdose" herself with vitamin C. I say overdose but it really isn't since there is no bioaccumulation. The extra vitamin just get rejected via urine and therefore helped preventing reoccurence. She never got a problem after and before being told that tip, she had gone through multiple courses of different antibiotics without success.

So, I believe it worths talking about these UTI with your GI and maybe trying the vitamin C thing could help you aswell (she was told to take 3 instead of 1).

I believe bacteria because they always do cultures... ANd the cultures are what they wait a few days to see what bacteria grow right? And my urine is always very dark but if I had a fistula wouldnt it be very painful.. In what area? I always have severe lower abdominal oain in like almost the lowest pelvis are and they say it from the uti so Im not sure. I also know they have called me on several occasion and said that I needed to change my antibiotic because the culture needed something stronger because the antibiotc perscribed was resistant....

Yes, well the reason why the bacteria are there is the problem to find if I may put it that way. They know with the test what type of bacteria is there and certain will respond to a specific antibiotic. It is not impossible that you have one bacteria and that another grow stronger once you get rid of the first one. And then, you may need another antibiotic to get rid of that other one. By the way, what medication do you take for your Crohn? Some medication may not help with UTI either.

As far as pain go, I can tell you I have pretty much no pain(not sure about fistula either yet), most of other's that had fistula have expressed the fact they had pain. UTI may cause lots of pain, when the bladder gets inflamed so again, one can't rule out the other one.

Lori, that is where a lot of my pain was. And when the doc pressed there, I had shooting pain into my bladder and the urge to pee. They could also feel a lump there and this was an abscess as well as the fistula.
