full colectomy

I've been in a crohn's flareup state since August of 2010 and majorly against the idea of surgery since my diagnosis in 2009. My feelings on surgery have recently changed and I have now requested to go through the surgery. Can anyone let me know what I might be in for post surgery? Or anything I can do to prepare myself for this massive change?

I don't know about a full colectomy, as I had a partial colectomy six months ago, but I can tell you surgery was such a good choice for me and I am so glad I did it. I had a f/u colonoscopy today (six months out) and my doctor says I have no signs of Crohn's.

A lot of our members have had full colectomies. You can check out or stoma subforum for information about that, and our surgery subforum for information about surgery specifically. There's a lot of information there to give you an idea of what it's like. And hopefully some of them can come on and chime in on what you're in for.

Good luck with the surgery! I hope you have an excellent outcome and it works well as a treatment for you. Welcome to the forum.
