Does anyone have gallbladder problems along with their Crohns? I had a terrible gallbladder attack that landed me in the hospital earlier this week. I am trying to figure out if it is just one of those things or related to the Crohns OR related to Cimzia? Any ideas?

Before I was diagnosed with Crohn's there were a couple of years that I had problems with my gallbladder. They kept looking for stones, and I had none. When they finally decided to do a HIDA scan, they realized that I had a non-functioning gallbladder. When they finally took out that foul, little, vile of bile, I felt better. I was diagnosed with CD about three years after that.

I do know that a lot of people with Crohn's have gallbladder issues. It's not an absolute, but does seem to go hand in hand most of the time.

My mother had her gallbladder out and I knew mine was going to cause me issues. It was a gut feeling, not really a feeling in my gut.

I asked my surgeon if he'd take it out when he was going in for a SBR. He told me he couldn't as it was fine at the time. I told him I'd be back within 5 years to have it out. Three years later he had to go back in to yank it out. Of course he had to go in the hard way as I have too much scar tissue in there for him to use scopes. It was quite annoying.

I thought I might have had a problem with it but not sure, I keep getting a dull ache in my right hand side just below the ribs, to me it feels like the GB or liver. I had an ultrasound scan last week and everything looked fine :))) so I don't know what it is. How do you know if it's the GB and where do you all feel the pain?? I definitely don't have stones so i'm not sure what other problems the GB can give. This pain only started after my resection so it's maybe an adhesion

I remember my gallbladder pain being very sharp and sudden, almost like kidney stones, only it was in the front on the right kind of low. A couple of times the pains were so sudden and intense, I dropped to my news. I had multiple stones, and had the thing removed.

I had gall stones and a non functioning gall bladder so they took mine out... I always had symptoms of Crohn's for as long as I can remember, but everything got so much worse after they removed my gall bladder.

I saw a "hippie doctor" as I called her lol, she studied homeopathic medicines and Eastern meds and she told me a lot of people with Crohn's get so bad because of the gall bladder and because of how so many doc's take it out when it does so much for our digestive system. I was on a supplement for awhile with ox bile in it that helps put bile back in your system that its missing without a gall bladder... it seemed to help for awhile but all that homeopathic shit wore off after a couple months.

Crohns isn't directly realted to your gallbladder but people with crohns have a higher risk of gallbladder disease and gallbladder stones. Since it's not realted or part of the digestive tract it's not directly related though there is evidance making us at a higher risk. Most gallbladder attacks or inflammation is because of gallstones which block the path which the bile flows out from, because of this the bile backs up causing inflammation which can cause the gallbladder to crystalize or explode.

yes cindybt i am having trouble with my gallbladder

yes cindybt i am having trouble with my gallbladder its very inflamed and dont know why the er doctor told me i could have crohn's diease and that can be making it inflamed not only that but my colon is also really inflamed to i go to my GI doc next wed and i should know if i have crohn's or not and if thats caueing my gallbladder to be inflamed

Now here's s subject that I can relate to lol

I had my gallbladder removed when I was 18 due to stones and a blockage causing pancreatitis .
They gave me no reason y and nothing was investigated.
I went downhill from there and that was 8 yrs ago.
Only recently (sept 2010) I got diagnosed with crohns and was told that all my gallbladder problems go hand in hand with crohns but usually the crohns is discovered first then other proplems manifest as a result or the ongoing inflammation.
I always thought my gallbladder removal caused all my problems afterwards but I think now that crohns was involved way before that an caused my gallbladder removal in the first place .

Wow, I should have looked for this thread months ago. I had a bowel resection Nov 2010. That's when I was finally diagnosed with Crohn's (they told me I had IBS for 13 years and to just deal with it). 4 weeks after resection I had terrible sharp pains directly below my rib cage on the right side. They did scan after scan and couldn't find fault with my gallbladder. After 3 more trips to the ER they finally decided to take it out and now those pains are gone. Sometimes your gallbladder can look fine on all the scans and x-rays and test and still be causing problems. I'm glad everyone has shared their experiences here! It's always nice to know I'm not alone. I just got out of the hospital 2 days ago with a mild bowel obstruction and major Crohn's flare. That makes 6 trips to the hospital in 8 months. They are getting to know me on site. I am hoping for some sort of remission for at least a couple months! Everyone keep on posting, I really enjoy this forum! Just reading the posts lets me know there are all sorts of treatments and diets for me to try, it gives me hope for relief.

Thanks to all!

I've been having awful pain in my upper right quadrant. Would you all suggest going to the hospital or waiting it out for an appointment with my gi?
