So, I have had GERD for the past 7 months, and I'm taking meds for it alongside Crohn's meds. Currently, Crohn's symptoms are not that active (no diarrhea, constipation or even pain in my colon/intestines) but GERD is giving me hell.

Could I be in remission? I mean if that's remission and it's only GERD that is active, how on earth am I gonna keep up when both are active?
Can Crohn's be promoting GERD?

My doctor always gives me vague answers whenever I ask him about that, so I hope someone who has the same experience can help.

My doctor has said they are separate issues, but that keeping the GERD under control is better. He said the acid needs to stay under control to not aggravate my digestive tract. Have you looked into trying a different med for the GERD? Sounds like the meds are not working too good. Coffee, alcohol and spicy foods get my GERD going for sure!

I have been trying different meds, and my latest ones seem to do the best job, but let's say I forgot to take the antacid after eating, or even was a couple of mins late, my stomach is like a volcano. Not to mention that I'm eating only easily digested food, and I'm on a very strict diet with no fats or spices whatsoever, I also drink herbal infusions only (no peppermint of course).

My doctor told me that this has nothing to do with Crohn's, either. And he thinks that I'm just being careless with my diet. I can barely swallow anything without having those frequent belches that are followed by reflux, and I have pain all day. I'm getting sick of living this life.

There is a subsection here in General IBD Discussion. It is a support group for those who have Crohns and GERD.

I know how you feel you cant miss a dose or you suffer horribly. I still get problems now and again even with meds burning and also feels something is stuck. I drink my meds early in the morning half an hour before i eat anything. Ron thanks i might join there

I'm the same way, my IBD went into remission in 2011 but then my GERD got worse at that time. Both conditions seem pretty quiet these days, but for the past year I've had tons of issues with bleeding hemorrhoids. So it seems that for me, something is always going to be active and causing me trouble! But yes, long story short, you can have active GERD when the IBD is in remission. Or vice versa.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

That feeling of something stuck is the worst. :/
What have we done to suffer that bad? SIGH

Now this sounds horrible, but it is the truth, so I gotta accept it. I'm sorry that we have to go through this.

I too take my GERD meds in the morning 1/2 hour at least before eating. If it's a bad day I will take another dose at night.

I hope you feel better soon.

I take omeprazole right after I wake up and half an hour before every meal I have to take rebamipide and itopride hydrochloride or else food will stay in my stomach for the rest of the day and it will give me hell. My stomach has become a pills graveyard. :|

Thanks for your wishes.
