Hi everyone,

I am 28 and was diagnosed with Crohn's approximately 3 years ago. My husband and I have been wanting to conceive for a long time, but I cannot seem to get into remission. All of the info I have been reading says pregnancy is generally fine for people in remission, but what about for those of us who have continued active disease? Generally my symptoms are only bloating and some abdominal pain. I am wondering if anyone has gotten pregnant while not in remission, and what were your outcomes? I want to have multiple children and I feel like I cannot continue to wait to go into remission, which may not happen for me (I've been waiting for 3 years!). Any feedback would be helpful.

Thank you!

Hi Michelle,

I'm sorry, I have no advice for you. Hopefully, someone will come along who can offer you some information!

Hugs, I hope you soon find remission and can move ahead with starting your family!! :ghug:

Hi Michelle,

Here's my pregnancy experience.

I had had a major flare which resulted in my second SB resection. I became pregnant within the next year. I had already been showing signs of active disease by then (came back quick after that 2nd surgery). At that point, I had not made a decision about meds so I was drug-free.

During my pregnancy things quieted and I never had to go on meds. I was blessed with good health. Actually, I felt better than I had in quite some time. I ate well and gained more "baby weight" than I should have - but I felt great so I ate and loved every minute of my pregnancy! I don't know if it was the prenatal vitamins, pregnancy hormones or what but the CD seemed to vanish while I was pregnant.

I delivered full term with a 7 lb 3 oz healthy boy by c-section with no complications. I was fortunate that I had very supportive OB/GYN and GI doc's.

Melissa
