I had an appointment with my GI yesterday, and he told me that I am going to have to be on prednisone for 3 more months!! Blah. I was hoping that I would be able to stop taking it. I've been on it for two months already, and I am so sick of it. :( Plus, he gave me a prescription for Delzicol to start, but it isn't covered on my insurance, and would be $500/month. There is no way I can afford that. And, I just realized that I completely forgot to ask him about how tired I have been. I wish I could go back and do that appointment over!

Give the office a call and let them know you have a few more questions that you forgot to ask. The nurse may answer them or they may have the Dr call you. You should be able to get your questions answered.

Also, ask the office if there is any aid or help they know of to get that prescription at a reduced price or paid for. There might be a way to code it or free samples or if you contact the manufacture sometimes they will give you a reduced price. Our insurance company keeps refusing to pay for my son's fecal cal tests. Every three months we fight it and they end up paying for it but it is a hassle.

Sorry to hear about the pred for 3 more months. It was a miracle drug for my son but we were all excited when he could get off of it!! (((Hugs)))

Also, check Delzicol website. Sometimes they have coupons. I have Aspiro and their website has a $100 off a month coupon. (No medicine should be expensive enough to give you a $100 off coupon). That's always a good place to look for assistance, especially if it's a new prescription.

I am so nervous about being on mesalamine again, too. I was on Lialda before, and when they increased the dose, I got really sick. I don't know, though, if I was just getting sick anyway, or if it was for sure the Lialda. So, we are trying Delzicol to see what happens.

The pharmacy is sending a prior authorization to the doctor's office, to see if they can get the Delzicol covered. We shall see.
I took my 3rd dose of the Delzicol this morning, and started having explosive watery diarrhea. I think I might need to call the doctor's office.

Well, I guess my body does not like mesalamine. My diarrhea kept getting worse, and I was feeling miserable. I had abdominal pain, nausea, and dizziness. I started having blood in the diarrhea, too. After talking to my GI's office on Friday afternoon, I stopped taking the Delzicol. I'm finally starting to feel a little better today.

I have my first appt with my GI next week after my 3 weeks hospital stay and diagnosis of Crohn's. What I'm doing is writing down quesons as they come to me in a dated note book, almost like a journal. He'll probably be annoyed but like you, I want to avoid leaving and forgetting everything I wanted to ask. Hope this helps.
On another note, I've been home for a week now and am still experiencing some bloody diarhea, and going 3 - 6 times a day. Anyone else experience this? I thought this was supposed to tone down more as time went on. The good news is after losing 45lbs, I gained 3lbs this week, I'll take it!

DX - June 2014
Prednisone - 60mg/day
Azathioprine - 150mg/day
