Gone from diarrhea to constipation

My daughter normally suffers from on and off diarrhea. About 2 weeks ago she was coming down with the flu so she took flu tablets which contained codine. I don't know if this was the reason but since then she's been constipated and can't seem to go unless she has a laxative. Don't know if l should be worried or not.

Hmm. Have you contacted her doctor or an advice nurse? If she's that constipated they might have some ideas or know better whether to be worrying or not. I hope something works for her soon...

She hasn't been for 5 days and the laxatives aren't working. We're going to see our GP in an hour.

Our GP thinks that the codine has started all this.

Codeine can be constipating but I don't think its effects last more than a few days at most. Five days without a bowel movement isn't that concerning. I realise it's not normal for your daughter, but it shouldn't have done her any harm.
