Hi all first I would like to thank anyone that takes the time to read my questions and offers any advice. It is much appreciated.

I live in the wonderful state of NJ. They have one place that dispenses MM. I heard they don't have enough to fill the orders. Has anyone had any experiences in Monclair dispensary?

My Gastro Dr. also doesn't seem to be interested in prescribing MM to me. I asked him about it a year or so ago but he wasn't very interested in going down that route. I am currently on Remicade but it doesn't help 100% of the time and it lowers my immunity to the point i get ever damn thing that is floating in the air. Any suggestions?

I am also not good with smoke, smoking or any of that. Would you recommend if I did get the MM a vaporizer?

Again i am a total noob to all of this so I don't even know if I am asking the correct questions. Just trying to get my life under control living with Ulcerative colitis

Thanks again

Hey thatguy, welcome to CF!

I am not familiar with the Monclair dispensary, but I am not surprised they are having difficulties meeting demand. Even if half the cannabis users produced their own cannabis, I reckon there still would not be enough quality supply to meet all the demand. More and more people are discovering it, and as science and research further elucidate how cannabis works, more people are likely going to try it.

There is no reason you cannot take cannabis concurrently with any doctor prescribed treatments for your UC. If Remicade is only party capable of addressing the condition, I am confident cannabis will be able to help, perhaps dramatically.

If you are in a position where you're able to purchase quality cannabis from a dispensary, you're already in a very good position, since a good supplier is the hardest obstacle patients often face. I would definitely seek a prescription from your doctor if he is keen on it.

The delivery system is all up to you of course. Vaporizing is extremely efficient and the effects are near instantaneous when it comes to treating the symptoms of UC, including pain and cramps, as well the nausea that some drugs can induce (such as Aza/Imuran). I am not a smoker and had difficulty supporting harsh smoke, just like you. In that regard, I got a vaporizer, which I interface with a piece of glass called a bubbler, which acts as a water filtration device, smoothing the vapor even further. The result is an almost pure vapor of H20 and cannabinoids, which doesn't irritate my airways at all.

The most efficient delivery system when it comes to UC though are definitely edibles or tinctures, which you can easily make yourself. If you ever go down that route, you can count on the board's support to teach you how to do that safely and efficiently.

If you are looking for a vaporizer, you should let us know when and where you plan to medicate (work, home, office, car, etc.), how often and how much, so we can better help you choose a vaporizer that will suit your needs and budget.

Thanks for you're reply and all the knowledge you have shared with me.

Since I been on Remicade I still have had some issues with going out and being some place with out a restroom. It kinda sucks because I have small children and feel i am really ruining their lives with my condition. I don't know if it is mental or physical or both.

I am just looking for some sort of relief and a form to relax with out having to take medication in a pill form. I have tried some anti anxiety pills but they mess up my whole digestive track. I have a few friends that have smoked before and they have lent me their knowledge as well but I am such a noob on this stuff I don't even know if I am using it properly.

All this is putting a strain on my marriage because my wife just doesn't understand. She has the stomach of a rock and if and when she does get sick she is better in less than 24 hours. It has been two weeks now that I got a stomach bug from my kids and now a flu/cold or something. I can't shake it.

My wife thinks I am battling with depression. I don't know what to think. I have tried beer to relax but it just messes up my digestive track as well. I feel like i am running out of options and places to turn to.

Do you suggest I make an appointment with my gastro doctor? Or do I go to another doctor to try to get a prescription.

thanks again for any advice

Depression is not uncommon with debilitating diseases that are chronic. The constant pain, lack of sleep and the stress that comes with scouting the washroom anytime you go out can have a toll. The brain is an organ just like our GI tract, it can eventually malfunction is stressed too much. If your wife has reasons to believe your behavior looks like depression, and you agree, you may want to consult a psychiatrist or a general practitioner that could evaluate you. If you are going through a depression, it needs to be treated as well.

Alcohol is a terrible idea for you, especially if you intend to use it to relax. You will make your UC, possible depression and overall condition worse.

For the prescription, I would approach your GI since he expressed he'd be open to it already. I'm not sure about how things work in the US, but in Canada, only specialists can prescribe cannabis, so you'd have to find out about the laws in NJ.

As I say to EVERYONE with an IBD, cannabis cannot not help. I will abstain from commenting on its ability to treat anxiety, although the literature is full of such claims, because I have not researched it properly, and I don't want to feed you ********. I can tell you that the science behind its effectiveness for people with IBD is solid, and should you take it, you will notice an improvement in your quality of life if you take it responsibly and regularly.

The next step is for you to make an apointment with your GI so you can discuss your situation with him and move forward with a prescription. If you can get it, you can get a vaporizer.

I'm sorry your wife is not supportive or doesn't understand your disease. Does she understand what UC is, what it does, etc?
