Hey all.. its been a while since I've been on (just so little time....) DD is on azathioprine, and ive just noticed a HUUUUUGE difference in her hair texture, thickness, ect.... plus she has a LOT of broken/fallen-out hair in her brush,,,,

Is this a side effect of azathioprine that anyone has heard of? I've not found anything online...
Anyone

Yes I have heard of it being a side effect of aza, I've also heard of it lessening over time. In the meantime there are some anti-breakage shampoos out there, never brush it wet, etc. all things to prevent breakage. Hope it quits.

Yes, my son lost some hair while on Azathioprine. I didn't notice it by looking at him, but noticed a lot of hair on the bathroom counter.

I know some adults the Biotin to counteract this, but I'm not sure if it's safe or appropriate for kids.

I experienced lots of hair loss on azathiaprione just running my hands thru my hair would pull strands out. Since coming off it I now have lots of baby hairs coming thru. However my crohns nurse also said that when ure body is fighting illness etc the nutrients etc aren't going to their usual places like hair growth for example as they are needed elsewhere??

My son's hair got thin and a bit grayish when on 6mp the first time. It's similar to Aza.

Hey Danielle,

If you put the words...hair loss Imuran…into search you will pull loads of threads! Over the time I spent on the forum I same seen many members ask the same question so you are not alone hun. :ghug:

Matt had a very significant change in his the quantity, colour and texture of his hair when he started Imuran BUT I have wondered many a time, how much was down to medication and how much could be attributed to his very poor physical condition including malnutrition?? In our case I think the change in his hair was far more than just the meds.
