Has any one else gotten sick (painful cramps, headaches, gas) during the first few days when vacationing in a very warm (hot) and humid environment? My other half says it happens to me every time. I didn't realize this until he brought it to my attention. I'm not saying this is the only time it happens but it's a guaranteed occurrence when I do hit the sun and sand.
 
Yes.

Excessive sweating or general discomfort due to heat exposure really gets my stomach out of wack. I have to stay in the office during the hotter days and am not allowed to go outside. It's great, though, it get's me out of field exercises and area beautification!
 
I moved from Florida to Chicago almost 2 years ago and didn't have Crohn's symptoms until last year. :eek2: Guess I'm backwards, haha.
 
I don't know if I get worse but I did get my first flare and diagnosis last summer. But besides that, I always generally feel like crap when its hot and humid. Who doesn't?
 
I live in florida, so hot humid summers, and I do not notice a difference in the summers.
 
I used to, seems every drug I am on affects me and the sun really makes me feel ill and if the humidity starts up I am feeling worse. We fixed that problem got central airconditioning at home, and never will be without it again!
 
I went to Puerto Rico over the summer for my brother's wedding and woke up on day 1 with what ended up becoming a flare. Though to be honest, I don't know if it was the weather or, more likely, the 16 hours of travelling I'd done the day before. Planes screw me up more than the weather does, I think.
 
Nope. I go on a tropical vacation every year and always feel better. Even last year in full flare I went to the Carribean and Bahamas and felt great for a week.
 
I live in Texas so it's pretty much always hot and humid here. I don't know if this has anything to do with IBD at all but I sweat, really, really easily. I was outside for just about a half hour today, just sitting down, and my shirt is completely soaked through.
 
I sweat like crazy too, but I attribute it to all of the drugs. I live in San Diego, it is usually 70 and beautiful out with no humidity.

I hate tropical moments! Sweat like a pig!
Some of the meds that we're on say sun sensitivity tho, like Pred and Humira, and to avoid sun exposure.

I have to remember to put on sunscreen in Hawaii in two weeks, I am so bad about that. At this point though I am just waiting until I have skin cancer, grew up on the beach and was awful about sunscreen as a kid.

Used to get really dark, not burnt but have spent a lot of time in the sun.

me too Chris! I have olive skin and spent years in the sun without protection, I go very dark, loved sunbathing and also waiting for the skin cancer to rear it's ugly head!
But now I avoid it like the plague! Makes me ill. I wear sun factor boiler suit! lol
 
Yes! My first ever flare started in the first few days of a holiday on the Med. I haven't been anywhere hot since! I've always had bowel troubles when I travel abroad though...different diet, dehydration etc probably play a part.
 
Only had that problem when I went to Egypt in the summer and it was extremely hot and humid. The main problem I found was going from one extreme to the other. Like from the heat outside in to a freezing cold air conditioned shop/hotel.

Yup, found out the hard way this weekend that Humira AND methotrexate can make you sensitive to the sun. :redface: I wasn't on these drugs last summer and have never had a problem with sun, so I didn't even think about it this weekend... and it was sunny and hot ALL weekend. Now, I've got such a burn and rash on my arms and face! :S urghhhhhhh
 
Aww, that stinks Sharon. I guess I should start thinking about that as I should be starting Imuran soon. Start slathering on the 45 SPF!
 
Mary, you don't have to be a crohnie to be made ill by quick change of climate. I work a physical, outside job and I go through similar symptoms every summer until I re-acclimate.
 
I also get shaky and sweaty and it makes my stomach cramp, and I also start feeling really nauseous and it kind of makes my heart pound if I'm out for too long.

I lived out in California, in the middle of the Mojave Desert, for 3 years and in July and August I made sure I only went outside when necessary. 118 degrees made me feel terrible!!
 
Hmm...maybe this was related to my slight stomach pains I experienced last night while at a concert. It was super duper hot and everyone was sweaty. It was the first time I had felt crampy since my obstruction. Hopefully it was the heat and not anything else! :)
 
Count me in as one of those who gets worse in the heat & humidity. It's something like 90 degrees here today, and it was 90 yesterday as well, and I have felt miserable since it became so hot. Massive cramps, nausea and pain for the past 2 days. Fortunately it's supposed to get back down into the 80s/70s later this week, so I just have to ride this out a little bit longer.

Interesting! I have a rash too - got sunburned yesterday while out working in the gardens....it has calmed down now - I'm on Remicade though and some different steriod and non-steriod cremes for my eczma/psoriasis right now.....
 
I go into an all-out flare EVERY Summer, without fail! This has been happening ever since I was a little girl. I was born and raised in NYC, and the Summers can be very hot & humid. Last year, all my stomach would tolerate (for 4 months straight) was Gatorade, dry cereal, and a few spoonfuls of brown rice every couple of hours.

I've noticed that my stomach seems to cut me some slack whenever I travel to places with less heat & humidity during a flare. San Diego and Los Angeles have been wonderful to my stomach! I'm moving to San Diego this year, so we'll see if my flares become less intense during the Summer months!

Add me to the list! I have to live in air conditioning from late spring/summer to mid October. I get sooo sick...rashes, stiff joints, dry heaving, fevers.

Every year I start planning how we can move to a cooler area-Seattle maybe lol? Los Angeles weather sucks from May-October for me (sigh)!
 
The heat kills me i have no energy headaches and sweat a lot, got to drink lots of water . The cold just makes my joint pain get worse .not good for some one that works outside year round.
 
Hello-New and attempting to gather Info on the correlation between crohn's and heat related stroke. Some Back Ground-Father Passed from Colon cancer-58 year old sister battles crohn's and had a veno navo clip done 30 years ago. Has a few years left and will have to have both legs amputated-Son started symptoms at the age of 16-Doctors never took into consideration of family history-Love My mom but she said not heredity-Now know different-Son has had no surgerys and is not on meds at this time-Lives in Florida and was taken by ambulance for massive heat stroke-Idiot doc at small hospital decided to do a spinal tap-Caused my son to go into a full seizure. He is 30 diag. in his early 20s-WIfe took him to thier hospital cause the fever returned-went from 106 core temp down to 99 back up to 103.6 this morning. No questions but what should I tell him to do in the future-We are all worried and feel so helpless. I remember my mother with my sister who passed so many bloodclots that they lost her a few times. And I am afraid he may have cooked some of his organs.Just scared to death.
 
For me, the weather has no affect on how lousy my CD behaves, it always behaves bad...but when it's really hot, it makes bathroom trips more uncomfortable adding to the heat I create myself already when I have to do a lot of "work" clearing myself out.
