Hello,
I hope you dont mind me posting here but I dont know what else to do. Will try give a full story whilst keeping it short.
I am 42,female and I have been "not right" for years but particuarly the last 18 months. I have every symptom of rheumatoid arthritis bit no markers in my blood. My joints are very painful. I am always exhausted but I toddle on. Six weeks ago I started getting sharp cramping pain on my left side, As I have ibs I assumed it was that. Unfortunately it got worse over Christmas. I went to the Dr on th 27th in awful pain. I now cant tell where the pain is, its left side, right side and in the middle. Its awful. He thought I may have another ovarian cyst or a urine infection. He gave me Augmentin 500 and booked a scan for 28th. Scan showed no cyst but dr worried about my bowel and I have been referred for a barium enema.Dr said Crohns disease possibly, hence I ended up here.
I have been taking the antibiotics but I feel so much worse, I ache everywhere, I cant settle due to the pain. Im not hungry but im trying to eat. My wee hurts since yesterday and my pooh has gone black but im not on any supplements. My husband is terrified hes never seen me so ill and all my friends are saying how awful I look.
I just dont know what to do, I feel like a drama queen and I just want to cry all the time. I have never hurt so much as now. Can you offer any advice please? Thank you

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Out of interest when your bloods were done were any of your vitamin levels checked? The reason I ask is because if you have a issues with the bowel a common problem will be malabsorbtion as nutrients cannot be absorbed properly. Also do you know if you inflammation markers were checked? I would definetly see if you can contact your GP tomorrow morning for an emergency appt given the new symptoms you are developing, if they are not open then perhaps try NHS direct to see if you can speak to someone about getting to see an out of hours doc. Otherwise for now see if going onto a bland, low residue diet helps at all with the pain in the tum.

Please keep us updated on how you get on.

Hi there and welcome to the community.

Frankly, with everything you're describing, I suggest you head to the A&E so they can get the pain under control, take and evaluate your labs, and hopefully get some tests moved up or done immediately. The black stool is a potential, rare side effect of Augmentin but I've literally read thousands of anecdotes here and I while I may very well be wrong, I don't like the feeling I'm getting from what you describe right now. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Please keep us updated.

Hello again,

Thank you all for your replies. I have just seen the out of hours gp. He said he doesnt know whats wrong with me. My wee is clear so stop the antibiotics, my pooh is nothing to worry about. I probbaly have a flu but I have no flu symptoms and my abdomen might hurt but its soft so he has no idea. He also said there is nothing in this world would make my joints swell like that and cause abdomen/pelvic pain.

He gave me codeine 30 for the pain and omeprazole for my stomach. He also said I should see my own gp tomorrow.

My bp was 90/60, pulse 102 and temp 37.7, Normal rates are 100/50, 70 and 35.5.

I am still in pain, my joints are swollen and ache and I feel like its all in my head

Angrybird,

My vitamin levels were not checked and I dont know about inflammation markers. Thank you will keep to just plain bland food.

I see he's not familiar with IBD such as Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis.

If you get worse, please go to the A&E. It's not in your head.

Hi applepie,

I agree with David and that if you dont start feeling some relief very soon then you need to head to A&E. I do not have a Doctor degree but I do know what can happen to the body when serious symptoms are not treated quickly and properly.

You know your body best and you know when something is not right. Just because the Dr. say it is nothing to worry about dont mean you losing your mind. Keep pushing till you get the help you need.

I hope you find relief soon. Please keep us updated.

Hi :)
Sorry for all the pain you are experiencing, I have been having the same symptoms for the last 6 months diarrhea, blood, weight lose and sharp pain in my stomach as well. Has your doc referd you to a Gastro for a colonoscopy? I have not been diagnosed yet but they are thinking it is either Crohn's or UC. The only suggestion i can give you which i am sure you already have done is a lot of Tylonal or Advil... I know it really sucks and most of the time they cant even give you meds until you are correctly diagnosed. Also Joint pain is a symptom of crohn's if you didn't already know.

Take care and keep us updated :)

megs143, Advil is ill advised with CD or UC, as are all NSAIDs, tylenol is is recommended. You might want to check with your GI about taking alot of Advil(ibuprofen). Hope you get a dx soon and are feeling better soon.

Good to know lol considering that's the only pain medicine i have been taking:ywow:my doctor never told me that, and they will not give me anything else.

If you click on the highlighted words in my post above it will give you more detailed information about it. I know some have posted that if they aren't in a flare they have taken them from time to time but generally it is not a good idea to take them consistently over a period of time. But tylenol is still an option and if the pain increases you could talk to your GI or GP about something a little stronger. Good luck.

Hello again,

Just wanted to say Thank you all so much for all your support, you have no idea how much its keeping me going.

The codeine didn't really help last night and I had a high temp 38.7 too which was horrid. My husband has phoned our gp practice and I have an app at 2pm. So will keep you all updated if thats ok?

The other weird thing is I have lost half a stone in a week! I am a real outdoors person and I have horses so my weight is always the same so losing that much is a bit strange.
I havent even been able to see my horses for 2 days and I think thats scaring everyone as I would live there if I could.

Thanks again x
