Hi
I was only diagnosed in September but think I've had Crohn's for some time and ignored the symptoms.
But I've been having problems with meds. I was on presnisilone for 3 months came off as they put me on azathirprone. I had a bad reaction to the azathioprine so came off all meds. My bloods A couple of weeks later showed that my inflamatory markers were already Up to 40. They've now put me back on prednisilone 30mg rather than 40mg as I had bad side effects previously, turned into an anxious angry maniac and increased stomach cramps, and after one day back on them I feel anxious angry and the stomach cramps half intensified.
Does anyone else have this affect on prednisilone?
They've offered me a choice between metcaotorpuine with an anti biotic (cant remember the name) to reduce the side effects I had with azathiorpine or himura, a gp friend said take the himura so probably will.
I feel so at a loss I know so little about the disease
and already fed up with feeeling rubbish, tired, hormonal and in pain.
I'm thinking of waiting for the himura to be prescribed and take effect and use aloe Vera and pro Biotics instead of steroids
Any advise would be really welcome
Thanks x
P.s has any one else had issues with their periods? Mine have always been regular but now are so irregular and extordinarily heavy

Hi halfpint.
The side effect you experience with prednisolone are typical for this medication. I experience something similar: anxious, trouble sleeping. I am on a dosage right now of 50mg for a flare.
I have never heard of the combo mercaptopurine and antibiotics to reduce the side effects of mercaptopurine. Its difficult decision to choose between this combo and Humira. Since you had a bad reaction to Aza which is very similar to Mercaptopurine, I would probably tend to go for Humira as your GP suggested.
never had much issues with periods, but body turmoils are always possible when disease is active. Still, I would mention it to the GI. A consult with a Gynecologist would be important if symptoms persist.
A lot of people take or try alternative medicines for IBD. I never tried Aloes vera. I have tried probiotics, but with no luck. I can suggest IBD-AID diet in my signature if you want to try a diet alternative.
I would call the nurse asap about the steroids and let her know about your cramps.
Wishing you well.
