hi all,
i was diagnosed with crohns disease in june 2011. i had been feeling the effects for a few months but had been misdiagnosed with ibs.
I started on pentesa sachets along with steroids to kick start the treatment. after a months review my specialist decided they were not working to the desired effect. so i was prescribed imuran along with steroids for 2 months. i started on a low dosage of imuran and after 2 weeks my dosage was raised to 100mg per day. after 2 days on the 100mg i was admitted to hospital where i spent 5 days. i had been diagnosed with pancreaitis second to imuran. It was pain i had never felt before but the morphine did give some relief.
i visited my specialist again yesterday and i am lined up for humira injections. i have been tested for tb and fingers crossed i will be starting my first treatment on thursday depending on results for tests for tb.
my question is how is humira for people who have been prescribed to it? are there side effects? i have been reading up on it and one worrying fact is it is proven to cause a type of cancer in young males which i am...

I understand about the pancreatitis, I was in the hospital this past July with it! Add that to a Crohn's flare and life is more than miserable!

I have previously taken Humira, but I'm not on it now, it never really worked for me. The injections sting, and actually caused me some anxiety, but other than that I never noticed any reactions or side effects.

Check out the Humira discussion....I'm sure there are lots of people there who can tell you more than I can! And when in doubt, ask your doctor!

Hi Kieran! Welcome to the forum :)

I am also a young male. I'm on Humira. I've got no side effects, and no cancer. :) I've never even had a rash from injection. Also, as SarahAnne mentioned, there's a wonderful Humira subsection here, which you might want to give a gander.

Good luck :)

Welcome, Kieran! I don't have any experience with Humira, but I know it has done wonders for so many on here. I hope that it will get you feeling well really soon.

Good luck!
