Hey everyone,

So I found out 2 months ago that I have crohn's.

I moved to a foreign country one year ago and started to have stomach problems about 6 months ago. It took them a while to find out that I had crohn's as the doctors were reluctant to preform any major tests as I am only 24. They just kept feeding me anti acids.

It was tough when I found out that I had crohn's (although I was happy to know the cause of my problems after 4 months of pain). Actually, I had crohn's and a quite severe Helicobacter pylori infection. Being away from home, different language on top of a different medical system (insurance problems etc..) and not having family around. But I knew I couldn't let this destroy my new move and start in life.

I was on Corticosteroids for 2 months and now just 4g Pentasa everyday. I hope it keeps in under control.

I suppose I decided to joing here just to talk to other people who have this. I don't know anyone personally with crohn's nor any of my friends and while everyone around me is sympathetic and nice, I don't think they fully understand. Some of my friends had never even heard of crohn's.

I am still trying to take it all in.

Thanks for reading:thumleft:

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

It surely is a lot to take in when first diagnosed especially when you are in new surroundings and have to deal with that side of things as well. Just know you have come to the right place for lots of helpful info and support.

How is the tum now doing after the steroids and on the Pentesa? When you were on the steroids were you given any kind of calcium supplement? Has the infection now also been sorted?

Hi there and welcome to the community! Thanks for joining and sharing your story.

What country did you live in prior to France out of curiosity?

How are you feeling these days?

All my best to you :)

Hey AB,

Thanks for your reply.

I'm not too bad at the moment. The steroids worked well and the Pentasa seems to do on OK job but only when I take 4g a day which I have been told I cant do for a long period of time! Noone ever told me about a calcium supplement! It is something I should look into?

Yes, the infection is gone! Two treatments (10 days) of triple therapy antibiotics. It was actually this infection that made me go to the doctor in the first place ( its a nasty bugger!). I only thought before that I had IBS.

How do you feel?

Thanks Again ,

B

Hiya, when someone is on steroids they really should be put on a calcium supplement to help protect the bones as steroids can sometimes have an effect on these. Once you come off the steroids the supplement is stopped - that is what has happened everytime I have been put on them. I am pleased the infection got sorted for you. Who has said you cannot be on the 4g of pentesa long term?

I am doing well thank you, just feeling a little tired but that is all.
