Hi
Just wanted to say Hi to all:rosette2:

My story is basicly simple had Crohn's all my life but diagnosed at 26 yrs, after i would not leave the doctors until they helped me.
When i found out it was hard to except it but after years of careful eating habits and planning its never really changed my life style, i have still done every thing i wanted and still do.
It is hard but you can do the things you want not always nice but you can live a life with crohn's.
I am 38 now and have just been told i have to have the operation as the drugs are not working anymore! Op's panic !!
I have read loads and spoken to some people, but has any one had the op and come out good on the other side ? I heard it hurts , takes ages to heel and of work for ages ( Good Ha Ha ) but i do not really get to read good bits of the Operation. So i have a question does the operation work are you really better after it ?

thanks

Hi and welcome! I see you are from my neck of the woods. Which hospital do you go to? I haven't had an op myself, but plenty of people here have, I'm sure they will be along soon!

Welcome Sandrayeo :)
I'm glad you've been able to go this long without any major complications but I'm sorry to hear that you need surgery. What medications are/were you on? I haven't had any surgery myself but there are countless people on here who have and can share their experiences. I hope you stick around :D

Hi Sandrayeo and :welcome:

Good to see you here. What operation are you having?

There's loads of support and info here and many have had op's so there will be plenty of advice and reassurance. Good luck and welcome aboard!

Take care, :)
Dusty

Welcome to the forum.

I had a stricture removed surgically and I came out of it OK in the end. Since I could no longer effectively eat anything, it was life or death for me.

I was badly flared for a while after, but I took care of that over the next few months. I can say that the surgery was a success and I would do it again, if needed. I certainly hope it does not come to that again, but who knows for certain?

Dan

Hey and welcome !

What surgery are you having? I had a re-section of my large bowel (lots of it taken away), this was 10 years ago now. Recovery was long, but oh my god I could eat again and it was bliss. I have had flares since and one was very severe but now control it with meds. I couldn't of gone on without my op and was the best thing I could of done at that time. it is a scary thought as major surgery but they would only be doing it if it was needed and I am sure your see the benefits.

Hi

I had my first operation 10 years ago, it was an emergency so had no time to think about anything. Surgery saved my life and I have had long periods of remission since then so yes it worked well for me. I am having another operation on Friday, basically if I thought it would make me worse I would not do it. Of course we all need to be realistic and recognise that there is a risk, surgery is not the answer for some people, so you have to weigh it up. This next surgery is called "elective" but that does not mean having a choice, I can't function with my symptoms. I expect to be in some pain but intend to scream for drugs at the drop of a hat and recovery should take 6-8 weeks.

Hope that clarifies things a bit and good luck whatever you choose!

Hi thanks all

Only on steriods, as tried having varoius different tables, and the injections Humira but they only worked for a bit. But i think my body has given up now, unsure what surgery as still waiting to speak with surgen will let you know when i find out, only been told it will be major Ha Ha ( maybe my specialist is wrong ! i hope ). I am hoping that when the bad bits are removed i might know what life is with out pain, funny how you learn to live with it !
talk soon
