Has anyone else experience hip joint pain? I've been in remission for 16 years and lately I've been having joint pain like I've never had before. I'm wondering if the pain is do to my Crohns disease any advice or experiences would be helpful.

Joint pain can certainly be a symptom of Crohn's. Is it actually your hip or do you feel it deep in your butt? I always described my pain as hip pain, but it was arthritis of the sacro-ileac joint-and you feel it deep in your butt, its hard to describe. Wouldn't be a bad idea to check in with a doctor-either your GI or PCP. Good luck!

Its deep pain. when I lift my left leg out to the side or from a sitting position is when I feel it the most otherwise it feels like a dull ache. I went to my Gp yesterday she sent me for x-rays just waiting for the results. thank you for sharing.

I have and do and will likely tp experience hip pain as part of the Crohn's. It is definitely in the hips and often hips, and not in the gluts.

Hello from a fellow Edmonchuck.:thumleft:

Spondylarthritis
Is arthritis associated with Ibd
It tends to affect the lower joints and the spine/si joint
It can flare with Gi symptoms or independently .
Ds has the juvenile version and his runs independently of his Gi flares
His is also in his si joint /knees/ankles /heels /back /neck /wrists and hands .

My daughters and husband all have spondyloarthritis. My younger daughter also has IBD. Mr Chicken is right, you want to see a rheumatologist about joint issues. Hip pain is very common with SpA and is so sacroiliac joint pain. True hip pain tends to be felt in the groin, if you have pain elsewhere (in your lower back, butt, thigh) then it's more like SI joint pain.

CCFA has a good explanation of the various kinds of arthritis that are associated with IBD. http://www.ccfa.org/assets/pdfs/arthritiscomplications.pdf

My girls are both on Anti-TNFs but have needed additional meds (like MTX for example) to keep the arthritis under control. We also use a lot of heat, ice and a TENS unit for pain.

Good luck!

I wonder if IBDs contribute to sporadic profanity disorders, for when the pain hits a certain threshold, there often manifests itself a vocabulary lingual reflex. :ycool:

I've recently developed arthritis-like pain as a result of my Crohns - mostly in my fingers, hips and knees. I take a few high quality fish oil tablets from my naturopath and I have found these have helped me

Ha ha Mr. Polar bear, I have a feeling you're on to something 😁
I had both my hips resurfaced..they're called Birmingham hips..twelve years ago. At the time it was a puzzle because they didn't really put it down to arthritis. Looking back maybe it was something to do with what I now have, crohns, which may have also started around that time without me realising it.
Also, I have osteoporosis, diagnosed about five years ago, so maybe that's a contributing factor too.
And of course, as we age, we all get more creaky and develope all kinds of aches and pains, marvellous isn't it 😕

Let us hope we are a long ways away from the knacker's yard. I do have concerns about the extended use of prednisone, having seen the damage it can do to shoulder and leg muscles.

Oh for a spot of tea and some jelly babies today.... sigh
