I had a hysterectomy about 5 weeks ago and have been having cramps really bad. Not going to the bathroom alot about 1 to 2 times a day and its not diarrhea. The cramps are horrible though. My new GI said its is probably IBS.

I have bouts of IBS when I'm in remission. Those only last a day or two, though. If it lasts longer than 2 weeks, I call it a flare. However, if you're having pain with no bowel issues, I would blame the surgery.

Hi Mary,
I had something similar to "phantom limb pain". It felt like I was having cramps in my uterus, which, of course, was no longer there. I had it quite a bit after the surgery, then monthly just as if I were going to start my period, then just occasionally. Perhaps this is what is happening to you. I hope that whatever is happening settles for you soon.

Hiya Mary

Remember your op was a biggie. In order to get to your reproductive organs, the surgeon needs to take your bowels and bladder out to get to them, and when he's finished, they just get thrown back in, so to speak!
This can cause kinks, twists, loops etc in the intestines, they've been mauled about and need time to settle and find their own way back round where they were!
Hope that makes sense!
It's only been 5 weeks, so you need more time to recover, I was off work for 6 months after mine and I remember all the pain, gas, gurgling, bubbling, cramps like it was yesterday!
Speak to your gynae if you're worried, not the gastro.
take care
xxx
