How long does it take for steroids to work?

I have been on 30mg of steroids for about 10 days and still no improvement. Still going to the toilet about 8 times a day. Doctor said I should be feeling better in about a week. I know everyone is different, but how long should Steroids start to work? I starting to think they will of work and I will need a operation already at 13. My next doctors visit is 22 July.

30mg of Prednisone may not be a high enough starting dose. I see you are 13 but even at that age 40mg would be a more usual commencing dose.

It would be best to contact the doctor tomorrow and explain that your symptoms are not improving rather than wait until the 22nd.

There are other medications that may well work if the steroids don't. I wouldn't worry about surgery at the moment. It may well be that you need a higher dose of steroids.
