Hi, i made a thread on this about a month or so back about suffering from swollen cheeks and swollen lips. Someone mentioned this can be a sideaffect from humira, i then had a look on the humira website and sure enough it said facial swelling can be a serious side affect from humira. I stopped the humira a month back, and the swelling still hasnt gone down, and is really starting to get me down now to the point of not even wanting to be in public ! anyone know how long it can take to get the humira out of the system ?

Would be really greatful if anyone could shed some light on this.

Many thanks

Are you on any other meds? Do you have swelling in any other place?...I'm wondering if it is something else. Maybe try an antihistamine like Benadryl in case it is an allergic reaction....Although it has been a month it seems like your swelling would be going down. When do you see a doctor again?

humira is my only med, apart from i take spatone every day which is just an iron supplement. My specialist referred me to a dental specialis butt my appointment isnt till the end of jan. I think im going to give it another week then ill start back on the humira as my normal crohns symptons are slowly starting to come back since not having it, i just wanted to be sure it wasnt the humira causing the swelling. Is it posibble for a allergy to develop on a food i have never been alergic to before because i havent changed my usual diet in anyway?

I assume it was your GI that sent you to a dentist? Swollen cheeks and lips does not sound like a dental problem.

Edited cos I looked it up: Allergic reactions. Signs of a serious allergic reaction include skin rash, a swollen face, or trouble breathing.

Sounds to me like you should try an anti-histamine and contact your GI.

When I was on Humira I didnt have any side effects, just wished it worked long term. I would have your symptoms looked after by a doctor. Lots of side effects from Crohns itself can pop up.
