Its me again, I have the scd diet in full force and Colby is supposed tp start his first set of injections on Mon. He's 13 . Please give me some advice, he can handle needles no problem and has a good tolerance for pain. I'm just scared that they really are gonna hurt, any suggestions to not make it be so painful?Thanks...:)

Here's something I posted on another thread.. Katiesue is posting about her personal experiences with humira. You should take a look at it as well. as for the following, it's just a thought (mine are few and far between). you might want to run it by your sons' doctor first for his professional opinion on this, OK? Katiesue also mentioned the old trick people use for home piercings, numbing the area with ice first. I'd worry about whether that carries a risk of infection (in the ice water).

As for the stinging, anyone tried numbing the location first with baby orajel or anbesol? Applied 15 - 20 minutes before injecting, it might alleviate/mitigate the stinging sensation. As these are used for infants, orally, as a very mild, safe anesthetic, it probably wouldn't pose a problem for adults. But that is strictly a S.W.A.G.! (Stupid, wild assed guess). If you try it, try it at your own risk.

thanks , i have heard about the ice and also some ointment elma i think. we'll try them both!!!!! kel

I've been on Humira for about 11 months now and while I can say the shot does sting quite a bit, it is tolerable. The best thing for me is to freeze the skin with an ice pack for a good 5 minutes or more before I do the shot. The ice has worked better than any other method. Numbing the skin with meds doesn't seem to work because it isn't he needle that cause the most pain it is the actual medicine being injected that stings so bad.
Are you using the syringes or pens?
I have used both and really there is not much difference, the pens are maybe slightly better. I have had some nastly bruises on my thighs from the syringes, but none from the pens. I use the pens in my abdomen more without problems.

Good luck and I hope it works for him.
