I have suffered with Crohns for several years, and so far no drug has helped me other than the dreaded prednisone. I'm in the middle of an awful flare that I've been dealing with for months. But today, I tried a medicine that I hadn't tried before and it's given me amazing results and I wanted to share the info with you all in case it could help someone. The medicine is called hyoscyamine. It's an antispasmodic that you dissolve under your tongue and it works very quickly to relieve intestinal cramping. From what I understand, it both calms the muscles of the digestive system and blocks nerve receptors in the brain. It is certainly no cure for Crohns, but for someone that had suffered for months with intense cramping everyday, it is a godsend. I had several cramp free hours today and I am still cramp free. What a much needed break from the hell I have been experiencing! Ask your dr if you think it might help you.

Thank you! I still have the D and the big old stricture, but the pain relief today has been amazing.

Cool, just looked it up and it's used for IBS. I'm sure it can be prescribed for IBD too but only to deal with the symptom not the underlying disease. Its a good drug to know about though.

Yes, for some reason they prescribe it more for IBS but not Crohn's. Works for me though! But no, it will not address the underlying inflammation.

I was prescribed this medication last week, due to complaining about hurting so bad at night, especially when I lay down to go to bed. It seems to be working, but I do not have the pill that dissolves and instead have the slow release formula so that I can stay in bed all night. Yes, I still have pain at times and the dreaded D almost all day, but it doesn't seem as bad and I am getting some sleep, so I agree with you.

My son used this last fall when he was flaring and the pain was pretty bad. It helped him get through the day until we could get things under control. Glad it's helping with some symptoms and providing a little relief
