i get to start Prep on Wednesday!

For my COLONOSCOPY Thursday!!

Who ever thought i'd be so excited to have an onlder polish man stick a long tube up my butt, after a day of pooping water?! :ylol2: LOL

Hooray for Cancellation lists, and hopefully HOORAY for diangnosis! :)

My prep starts tomorrow. Hope all is good for you! Good luck.

Any tips for the prep drink? I just hate the taste!

And some people sit like a pretzel pinching their big toes with strobe lights going as the stereo is set to 65 decibels and the TV is playing and they are sucking on a butter rum lifesaver in one cheek and a peppermint lifesaver in the other whilst sipping through a straw, trying to make sure they don't knock the clothespin off their nose!

Hey - anything to distract you!

I'm SOOOO thankful that my prep seems like it should be relatively easy to get down....One 120ml. cup at 11am, another at 6pm. i'm a little worried it won't work, but i'm sure they know what they're doing.

You must be drinking the Pico Salax prep, I actually like the taste. Most Canadian doctors are using it because it is less invasive and it really works! Gotta orangy taste. My mix never got warm like it says it does. :)

Yup, Pico salex it is. :)
Good to know it tastes alright, but even if it didn't, i'm sure i can suck down half a cup. that would be so weird if it got warm!

Wait! WHAT???? :(

I wish I had that. I'm sitting here trying SO hard to get down this nasty NuLytely stuff that has me sooooo close to vomiting with each sip, and there's something so brilliant sounding out there. Seriously, I've managed to get 1/4 of it down in the last THREE hours.

I think I may cry as I struggle to get the rest down.

I think I mentioned to you December about Pico Salax.... my mom's doc who knows me as well, told her to get what ever I picked and I picked for her Pico Salax... she was so happy cause the last stuff really was uncomfortable!

I had two scopes last year and both times I had to drink the NuLytely stuff. The taste is bad, but the sheer volume of liquid is the worst to me. 1/2 gallon of that stuff is just brutal, especially when I have to chase it with another liquid to get it down.

Though I usually end up puking up 1/4 of it due to making me gag. Was supposed to have another scope in February, maybe I will get something else.

Just 1/4 of it? Gosh, I'm only a bit more than 1/4 IN, and there have already been a few close calls on puking. And that's over the course of 6 hours. At this rate, it would take me a full day to FINISH this.

However, things are already starting to come fairly yellow and nothing but water. I'll keep chugging along, but at some point, I'm probably gonna call it quits on it. Just want to make sure I get enough in for a truly exceptional cleanse.

Hey there, I'm Polish! LMAO!!!

Hooray for you. Hope it's the Miralax prep. Good luck!

He has been practicing a lot lately. Should have his permit to practice with pay in about 30 yrs. Just needs more willing test subjects. Only needs 299 more under his belt.

LOL.
Makes you wonder...there's a first time for every doc out there. Can you imagine being someone's guinea pig? Yikes.

Sounds pathetic, but i really am!
i was so bad today, had a burrito for lunch and nachos for dinner.....figure if there's ever a time to agitate my bowels now is it. No more solid food for me now until after the appt. friday though.
I'm just terrified they're not going to find anything. I know taht sounds odd, but i've been told so many times that everything is normal, i think to myself, this is not freaking normal!

Good luck Pam so happy for you that they were able to bump you up the list.. how excitement!! Hopefully you should know straight after the colonoscopy what is going on inside you. Fingers cross you get some answers. xxx

Yeah, i've got my girlfriend that's an RN coming to pick me up, because i know i'll be semi out of it and i want someone that understands. :) Thanks so much everyone, you've all been so supportive

I pick up my Clean prep in a few hours...the volume is the hardest part, I would struggle to drink that much water. My doc said to mix the crystal light powder to help with the taste. I am going to try and down it as fast as I can. I always say that, but after the first gulp I am ready to puke!

Hey muse, I am surprise the old doc didnt say Pico Salax... he is a busy Gi as we both know but Clean prep has been gone with the dark ages. Ask your pharmacist... unless you wanna suffer! Ask Dr B's secretary and see if Pico Salax can be used...he should be aware of it by now. Good luck!

I have complained aswell as witnessed others complain. He states that if you can tolerate it he recommends the Clean prep. He feels it works best. For people that really can not do it, I believe that he does give them something else. I trust him...and I can handle it, so I stuck with it.

I will however ask him why he doesn't recommend Pico Salax. I'll let you know when I see him.

There are a few people on here using Pico Salax and I have used it too, Clean prep makes me gag and it is like a gallon you have to drink? When do you go for your scope?

Good luck!!! If I remember he doesnt put you right out, now I am put out and with the Pico Salax the only thing I hate is NOT eating lol.

Tell the old fart I said hi! Let us know how your scope turns out?

Thanks, i will let you know how it goes.

No he doesn't put me completely out, only sedated. I guess it makes for a quicker recovery. I like it...it feels like a drunken dream.

Not eating is never too bad for me, I always reach a point and stop being hungry when I haven't eaten. I can stand to lose a pound or 2 LOL!

I will tell him you said Hi for sure.

Good luck Tamesis and Muse! Not to hi-jack but i have my first ever colonoscopy on Friday so starting prep tomorrow morning...not looking forward to the lack of food but i too have the PicoSalax so at least no worries about forcing it down (fingers crossed!).

However, i wonder if some of you scope veterans can help me out with a stupid worry i have. My appointment is 9.15am Friday and i have to get a bus to the hospital, it'll take almost an hour to get there. My last dose of picosalax is at 4pm Thursday. Please please please tell me that i am not still going to be in dire need of toilet trips by friday morning? So scared that am gonna get on the bus and have an accident...

Chubb, you should be fine by then. You may still feel the need to go but I found that whenever I tried hardly anything came out so you should be fine.
But isnt it posible for anyone to drive you in? Because if you have been sedated they usualy suggest you dont get public transport coz u could still be a bit funny from it.

Thanks LMV - don't have anyone that could drive so public transport it is i'm afraid. My info from the hospital did say no public trnasport but i assumed that meant after rather than before.

Actually, i'm planning on getting a bus home too but my boyfriend will be escorting me back so hopefully that'll be fine with the hospital. Otherwise it'll be a taxi and don't want to think how much it would cost. It's actually not too far a distance but is all the way through the city which is why the bus takes a long time. Might see how i feel afterwards and splash out on a cab!

Hey Chubb, you should be fine, one thing I like about the Pico Salax is it is less invasive and doesnt bring on cramping feelings. Good thing your bf is picking you up, you could be groggy or disoriented after the scope. It is a good idea that he be there when you wake up so the Gi can tell you what is going on. Good luck keep us posted!

Thanks Jetta. Hopefully i'm worrying about nothing and will all be fine. Just fear of the unknown i guess. I had a sigmoidoscopy when i was in hospital being diagnosed but was no need for prep as i hadn't eaten in days!

Not sure if bf will be there when actually wake up (booklet says i could be at hospital 5-6 hours so am just going up there myself rather than asking him to just sit around there all day!) but they said that they give you a short written report because they know you might still be a bit hazy afterward!

Hey Chubb, sorry to hear you have to go through it,but i'm happy to hear you have the Pico Salex too! I just took my first dose, and it wasn't too bad......Like salty orange punch. I'll keep you posted on how it works.

THat's nice to hear that they give you a written report, i think that's one complaint most people have is that they talk to you when you're still dopey.

Thanks tamesis, not looking forward to the orange and salt combination but at least it's not gallons of the stuff! Hope you get on ok with it all, keep posting so i know what to expect in 12 hours when i start on mine! Just had last proper meal and i think i already feel hungry... *sigh*

Yeah, i think a written report is a really good idea too, i hope they do give it to me rather than just trying to talk at me. Not too hot on retaining information at the best of times never mind after sedation!

Fingers crossed for a diagnosis for you.

Thanks so much Chubb. :)
it says it should take three to four hours to work, but it took me less than two hours....just a warning! And don't trust a fart! :p

Good luck Tamesis, let us know how it goes!

BTW Tam & Chubb did any of you have to take 2 dulcolax the night before? I did, and works like a charm.

Eek! My packet says i should expect, shall we say, movement, to start "at any time after taking a dose" and to "please ensure that you have access to a toilet at all times"!! Had a giggle to myself of visions of swallowing the cup down and immediately having BMs like a fire hose going off...hmmm,maybe i shouldn't tempt fate tho!

Yes, it really is......Similar to when you REALLY have to pee, and it just lets loose, but from your bum.....

I had to take 2 senekot tabs last night, and two tonight. They certainly worked, which is maybe why my prep kicked in so quick. I'm a little more than 2 hours in and there's very little in the way of floaties left. Thank god for Calmo!

Just as well i live in a really small flat and you're never more than about 5 steps from the bathroom then! At least i'm laughing about it all now instead of panicking tho, thanks guys! Will i still be laughing tomoro morning...probably not!

I'm pretty jealous about this Calmoseptine you all rave about, there doesn't seem to be anything similar in the UK that i can see, apart from something like a nappy rash cream but i really don't think that comes close to the magical soothing properties of Calmo...any suggestions? What did you do before you discovered the wonders of Calmoseptine?!

You should be able to order Calmoseptine online... there really isnt nothing that works quite like it. Zinc cream (baby section) is what I was using, and it is thick too. Get a non scented kind.

Oh, and fair warning hon, when you wake up, they will be encouraging you to get all the air out. Just remember, NEVER trust a fart. You may think there's no possible way for there to be ANYTHING after not eating for what seems like an eternity and cleaning out every little crevice up there, but...

We were on our way home yesterday, and I felt another air bubble, so I pushed it out. Next thing I knew, I felt warm, wet, stickiness all over my bum. Yep, definitely another notch for the "Public accidents" sticky. Couldn't have happened while I was still at the hospital in my gown. Nope, it waited until I was in my underwear and PJs, sitting in my mom's car heading home.

Nasty.

:( That sucks! Thanks for the warning.

I've been wearing an overnight pad all day, nice and absorbant and long.

I am having a scope today, started prepping last night, I threw up after the first satchet, kept down the 6am dose and am waiting for the 10am dose... I have done this many times and I find that I normally throw up at least once with the prep

Ugh, not looking forward to all that air again, seem to remember it being distinctly not fun from the sigmoidoscopy. I was in hospital tho so at least not really *public* - just my old lady roommates on the ward!!

Had forgotten about that, it's so rubbish that even after the procedure, the trauma is not over!

Good luck with your scope danika

The Piko is definite improvement over the 4 liter antifreeze jug they used to use!

Hope all goes well.

Used to? Hah, my doc here in the States still does give that nasty stuff. And cherry flavored? A hint of cherry overwhelmed by a LOT of salty tasting nastiness.

yuk! My condolences

I guess it is good to help with minimizing the fluid loss or something maybe. They say its better cold and to chug it but Ill be asking for the pico stuff every time now that I had it.

I hope it goes well for you! make sure you get most of the farting out of the way before you leave! On a positive note, I had nothing come out with my farts awterwards - apart from air of cousre. They were quite spectacular and lasted for a couple of hours. I think the longest one was about 30 seconds :)

I had my Scope yesterday, nothing too significant of a change. He found mild disease in my small bowl, and moderate disease in my rectum. So he increased my pentasa and salfalk suppository. No the greatest news but not terrible news either. I haven't been on Imuran long enough to see significant results yet.

The prep was terrible, I only finished 2 of the 4 sachets (vanilla flav) gross. However, I did mix Cyrstal light Peach with it and it made it alot more tolerable.

Hey good that you have gotten over the scope prep, it is not nice when you feel good let alone dont feel crappy. Pentasa and Salofalk are in the same family of drugs, I am surprised at that.

Thanks for the update!

The salofalk is a suppository, special for the rectum. I never thought I'd be putting things back in my bum, so used things coming out.

Good Luck. Reading the first post made me laugh outloud and spit my lunch on my keyboard. THANKS! :)

The last prep was miralax mixed with Orange Gatorade, intially it tasted good, but if I ever drink Orange Gatorade again I might puke, although it is better than GoLytely. I didnt think that it would work, but was I wrong.

Prep? It was alright.....Although i just went to the bathroom and there was what looked like stool in the bottom, diarrhea like, so i'm a little concerned about that. I'll tell them about it though and see what they say. I'm headed out in about 15 minutes for the scope, and hoping for good drugs! LOL

Honestly though, the prep wasn't really much worse than some of the really bad D days i've had. The fact that i could only have clear fluids, meaning no crackers in my broth kind of sucked, but i'm looking forward to dinner tonight! LOL

Thanks again everyone for your thoughts and prayers.
