I have been in UC remision for four years and have suddenly started getting Diarrhea, I never had an operation and have been on Asacol all these years and been following a low fibre diet. I always take my Asacol on time regularly.

I think I had food poisoning about a month ago in which I vomitted and had diarrhea. The food poisoning symptoms went away.

It has been around a month since I had food poisoning and in the past few days I have started getting diarrhea but no blood

I was drinking lots of water in the weeks after I had food poisoning.

Recently I have started getting diaherea intermitently, bloating and some tiredness and I put it down to drinking too much water

Now I drink water in moderation and also watch my low fibre diet even more closely however and make sure I eat things which my body can handle however I tend to lye down after eating.

What could this be? Could I have started to get the other UC sysmtoms after 4 years in remission.

Hi
Welcome to the forum.
It is possible that you are beginning a flare and it may be a good idea to get in touch with your GI doctor.
Best to catch it sooner than later
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes

Agreed. Better to know for sure than wonder and wait (don't want to wait until there is blood, you know?). Have blood work done first thing by either your GI or your GP if you can't reach your GI or if you don't currently have one.

Welcome to the forum! :D

Ive been to the toilet once today and had a normal stoole, I really don't want to risk going to doctors for nothing but I now think I know what caused this.

The other day I took aspirin and ibuprofen together for a headache. Today I read on another forum that apirin and ibuprofen can make people with Ulcerative Colitis have problems, maybe that is what has caused this. Thanks for the advice you two but im going to wait a little longer. It's been over 4 years and ive not had any problems. I think I will no when to contact my GI or GP

Yes taking those aren't really good for you but you're talking bout taking them for one day yet you're saying you had been having issues for days. I doubt it was the pain pills honestly.

I've had Crohn's most of my life and have been in remission for 13 years yet I stay on top of any new symptoms because I want to stay in remission. I don't want to have a resection again. For me, I wouldn't freak out if I had diarrhea for a few days because its not out of the norm for me. But for you if being tired and having bloating and diarrhea are completely out of the norm then there's no harm in having some blood work done to make sure that you're doing ok in the remission department.

When was your last check up with your GI? Its important to have blood work done regularly and to have routine colonoscopies every few years to make sure everything is all right even with few to no symptoms.

My last visit to my GI(I think thats the consultant surgeon here) which was late last year and I had usual blood work taken. Everything has been fine, even great and I was told I was going to be getting a routine colonoscopy check the next year.

I think I had one night of proper diarrhea and I had bloating but maybe this could be somthing else due to maybe the way I was eating because I changed the way I was eating after I had food poisoning. Occasionally over the past 4 years I have had looser stoole type diarrhea but this time I could hear noises at night from abdomen when trying to sleep which was maybe bloating and when I went to the toilet the next day it was liquid diarrhea. I was getting tyrdeness however I sometimes don't sleep properly because im unemployed and not very tyred, especially with warmer, summer nights.

At this present moment, im not bloated, ive been to the toilet twice today with normal stools. Ive eaten normally and feel fine.

I am going to watch myself however over the next few days and see how I go, im really, really, hoping it's not a flare because I was really trying to get a job and I remember some years ago being treated on the prednisilone steroids and I hated the side effects of those such as swelling of the face but I needed to take them to get better.

Have you ever taken Entocort instead of Prednisone? It takes a little longer to start working but it has much fewer side effects. Just a suggestion if you do need steroids later on in life.

Oh rite i'll have to remember that but I think it was a false alarm. I'm fine now.

Im ok now people thanks for your replies but I think it was a false alarm and im putting it down to the aspirin and the ibuprofen I took accidentaly or just normal illness.
