I just can't poop

I am not constipated, and I am not struggling with hard stools. In fact, it doesn't seem to matter if I have d or formed stool. It's more like my rectal muscles just don't respond. I can feel the stool and that I need to make a bm, but I strain so hard to remove it. Like I'm worried about straining any harder just to get out a small amount, my head pounds, my pain shoots up, but nothing really happens. It takes me 20 mins to pass a little bit of stool and I never finish, I just get too tired and give up. This can't be normal, but it's hard to describe. Often I go days without making a bm because I just can't make my body do it. Has anyone experienced this? I've had this symptom as long as my others, but now that I have the d mostly under control with my safe food diet I thought it would be easier for me to go. It's a really awful feeling to be unable to empty my bowels. Any advice for me, I just want to poop.

I've gone days without going too. But, for awhile I was going a few times a day. Is it possible you're not getting enough fiber? I know that I've been a bit scared myself to have too much. But, last couple of days been eating a bit of an apple without the peel to get me some along with some caramel dip. Not sure if it's helped yet, but we'll see and let you know if it's helped from this end. Good luck.

Well...not long ago I had a bathroom retreat. It came with a vengence and a bit of an extended visit. I do think the fiber probably did help me some. But, gotta admit that in some ways I didn't mind the gas that went with the after effects of having some apple. Especially at work. Just too bad it wasn't stinky enough to clear out some of the aisles of nasty customers I deal with:( Have a good day:)

Possibilities - some part may be psychological in origin - fear of the big D makes you clench harder. Remember that tied to this, the area is muscle. When you exercise, blood flows to the muscle making it larger and possibly harder to pass "stuff" as a result. try to find some way to relax!

Second, and hopefully not the cause, you may have some actual inflammation or stricture activity that is impeding your movements. I have this, and it has required a balloon dilatation to allow me to have almost normal movements. It might be worth mentioning to your doc on your next visit.
